ADÑ

TMX

Naulover
A total of 1,060 exhibitors from 22 countries presented menswear, womenswear, pelts and accessories for autumn-winter 07/08. SIMM thus consolidates its second position on the European fashion-fair league table, both in terms of visitors and exhibitors.
The ‘Artistic’ view of fashion
The Artistic Association of National Fashion Designers from Spain, otherwise known as ADÑ, presented its members’ collections at a very popular joint stand. The designers themselves took their seats among garments that were carefully displayed so that visitors could touch them. Among the work on show was the Majestic Black Room of Antonio Alvarado, Carmen March’s collection inspired by famous artists, another irreverent contribution from Carlos Diez Diez, Juanjo Oliva’s first menswear and Bipolar by designer duo Locking Shocking.

But SIMM does not just fly in the face of convention. There was also plenty of room for more traditional wear for everyday use. Flamenco stuck to its bright hippy chic in velvet, a fabric which features in everything from coats to colourful shirts in red and orange. A mainstay of the collection is the ‘Tantra’ coat, a reworking of the trench coat with buttons used to graceful, urban effect. The label’s colourful dresses and fantasy coats, replete with detail, transport us to the splendour of bygone Versailles.
Selvagi takes us on a different journey to Sherwood Forest and the magic of Robin Hood in a complete range dominated by earthy shades of brown, green and orange. Ultra-tight trousers feature alongside voluminous skirts and baggy jumpers in pure “Prince of Thieves” style.

Sensual and totally urban chic is the latest by Laga, with very seventies geometric prints on shirt dresses worn with co-ordinated maxi-bags and shopping bags. TMX once again proves that knitwear and fashion go hand in hand in close-fitting dusky dresses and wraparound jumpers designed to be worn over leggings. For a more understated but structured look, Naulover has created earth-coloured knee-length skirt sets with reinforced jackets, rounded off with forties-style hats and scarves.
Mireia Bisbe and Matilde Cano go for a truly Spanish look in dazzling, flamenco-style evening gowns. Nuria Aymerich adopts a similar approach in miniature with girls’ evening dresses designed to match her adult outfits. The same shades of black and chocolate-brown, identical bateau necklines and frilly skirts, with transparent fabrics to boot, all found their way into the child’s version.
Espacio Cibeles was once again the place to find the big names from the Spanish catwalk. Glamorous lingerie by Andrés Sardá and the latest collections by Jota Mas Ge, Montesinos, Mercedes de Miguel and Sita Murt were all on show.

Deluxe accessories
Hat designers Pablo y Mayaya exhibited La Inesperada (The Unexpected), a collection awash with the sparkling glamour of Hollywood in the nineteen thirties strikingly combined with cutting-edge architecture from the 21st century. Straight lines disappear in their hats and head-dresses to sensual effect made largely from fibre-glass. Dusky black and red are the key colours.
Elena Cáncer takes us into Black Africa with heavy, wrist-encircling jewellery in aged gold. Lola Casademunt, who has recently opened a top-class new facility in Granollers, also goes for gold, in pendants with coloured beads, long necklaces with multiple loops and bags with damask detail.
Mo by María Roca put on its most vintage face for two irresistible ranges: the first a series of dapper velvet bags in ochre, the second two-colour patent leather designs in swinging London style. The designer has not forgotten her basics, adorned with aged metal features in shapes our grandmothers would have loved and will now delight the trendiest consumers.

Laga

Tantra
Beachcouture exhibited its premium quality leather bags. The designer trio has also updated its timeless lingerie collection and uses silk and taffeta in outerwear alongside gorgeous boiled wool options in dark shades of grey, black and navy. An equally fresh feel was created by Casiopea, with its T-shirts for girls – both the young and the young at heart.
A vintage year for fur
Iberpiel Peletería brought a sensual collection of narrow-waisted frockcoats with prominent tails made by José Luis Aznárez. Floral appliqué and encrusted crystal add a note of fantasy to these garments in red and black. The exclusive studio of Miguel Marinero exhibited voluminous designs in astrakhan, mink and lynx, while Blue Ribbon put a fresh face on fur with multi-coloured coats and bomber jackets designed for everyday wear. The fur sector is of growing significance at Cibeles, with designers increasingly keen to make use of its generous warmth and enormous versatility.

New-look SIMM
Visitors and exhibitors will be treated to a more user-friendly SIMM from August 31 to September 2, when the event re-opens with a completely new look, a different layout and an updated interior design. It will also sport the mascot Simmy, a fun-loving, modern girl who personifies the change SIMM is about to undergo.
The new project divides SIMM into eight dedicated areas, which given over to different aspects of fashion. Gala will focus on the most select, exquisite designs, while Diva is for the bold and dazzling. Alma will have four sub-sections: Alma Aire is a trends-based workshop, Alma Energía explores form, Alma Tierra looks to natural textures, while Alma Agua is for swimwear. Basic contemporary fashion will be reviewed at Eterna, and Alas will be a mixture of technology, innovative pattern cut and select materials. Libre will cater for a cool, urban, more denim-based look and finally, Besos will be made up of up-to-the-minute trends, with a wide-ranging variety of product styles and philosophies.
