Fashion and accessories collections for the upcoming spring/summer 2011 season are given an exceptional chance to showcase at the Madrid International Fashion Fair (SIMM), by 357 exhibitors and 514 national and international brands.
One of this year’s outstanding new developments was the inclusion of the Ifema Showrooms, where the most exclusive women’s fashion brands presented their collections in a specially dedicated space.
As in previous years, the brands were grouped under different themes according to their philosophy and manner of interpreting fashion. Agents offered the most prestigious brands; Charm, the most urban style; Class, today’s basics; and at Ego, designs by breakthrough designers. Occasion wear was to be found at the Gala area and the simplest materials and natural fabrics have a space in the Natural area, while intimate fashions and swimwear were shown for the first time in the Moon & Sun area.

Savage Couture.

Mamatayoe.

Mamatayoe.
The biggest trend was seen in dresses, which dominated the show in all their guises, with a colour palette which varied from the already renowned powder hues to the brightest neons. Naval and safari trends and the romantic look reinvent shapes, volumes and colours.
Pop femininity
Daisies and dots in fuchsia, green and black are taken to a pop aesthetic thanks to Savage Culture. Trapeze dresses, bell shapes, yokes and empire line cuts are adorned with figures and stripes in strong tones, contrasted with the pure white of its new collection with an Ibizan air.

Flamenco.

Laga.

Laga.
Flowers are the main attraction in Dímelo con flores, the collection offered by Mamatayoe. Natural, fresh and comfortable fabrics are treated with optimism and plenty of colourways.
Flamenco renews its Ad Lib style thanks to intense pink and mauve tones. Bordering, sequins, knitted details, medals and smocking are combined with floral prints in different sizes and cotton silk. Waistcoats, sandals and bracelets are upheld for looks both for mother and daughter.

Victorio &Lucchino.

Escolá.

Escolá.
Laga makes the dress its lucky charm, thanks to knits, silk and cotton, evoking vintage which is adapted to the tastes of the most demanding of women. Bags and wraps coordinating with dresses complete a very romantic look.
Summer prints
The prints created by Victorio y Lucchino are the key element of the V&L brand. Irregular dots and red, green and salmon coloured flowers wrap around a very feminine silhouette with an accentuated waist. Flounces, the brand’s trademark, make yet another appearance this season.

Alba Conde.

Tantra.

Chic by Tantra.
Escolá regains its safari style, updated with a chic and urban air. Prints in dark tones, khaki green as a base colour, and exceptional knitwear items are the pillars of their summer offering.
More than 250 items make up the Alba Conde collection, in which floral and check print short dresses set the trend. AC, the younger sister collection, chooses floaty and fresh fabrics for next summer.
Tantra exhibits jeans in acid bright colours, floaty dresses and fresh cotton garments. Chic by Tantra is the most elegant and sophisticated offering, with the most intricate occasion wear dresses and suits, while accessories add a distinguished touch to their more casual looks.
Tie dye neons
Contrast is the foundation of the new collection by Javier Simorra. His most casual and youthful collection is dripping with electric tones and tie dye prints, while camel tones and monochrome lead in the more elegant line.

Messcalino.
Another brand which has opted for tie dye is Messcalino, a modern women's fashion brand with a presence in key international markets. Its new collection offers youthful styles thanks to the combination and shapes and volume, flounces and knitwear which encapsulate the whole spectrum of green hues.
The events season
Spring and summer are the time for celebrations, which is why the collections created for special occasions have pride of place at this year's SIMM. Minimalism, broad and clean lines, and unaffected sophistication are the key to occasion wear dresses.
Charo Ruiz previewed three new collections. Its bridal line draws out the use of white and Ibizan inspiration to the max. Pastel green and pink tones, together with Balenciaga lace edging, are the key features of its second offering, completed with a line dedicated for children, with intense pink and white tones, lacing and block printing.
It’s My Party is the Pronovias occasionwear collection, in which gauze, satin and tulle are draped to favour a mermaid silhouette, exposing the shoulders.

Mass Matilde Cano.
Black, bordeaux, grey and fuchsia are the chosen tones for the block colour designs, while the floral print is the king of the summer galas.
Matilde Cano opts for brocade, lace, silks and tulles in aquamarine, purple, white, black and fuchsia for its evening designs, in which dots, flowers and prints add to a collection of elegant lines. Coppelia is the name of the offering made by Mass by Matilde Cano, a collection inspired by classic dance in which voluptuousness dominates, as do light and enveloping fabrics, in nude, white, black and fuchsia tones.
Mermaid shapes and strapless styles are the calling cards of the collection by Veneno en la piel. Sumptuous dresses in black, bordeaux, purple, grey, blue and green are the portal into one of the trade fair's most spectacular stands.

The navy look, a safe bet
Viriato is a great ambassador of the navy style. Navy blue, red and white continue to be the standards, together with greens, oranges and earth tones for impact. Shoes, boots, wraps and maxi bags complete the collection.
TMX stays true to current trends with simple, clean lines for knitted dresses, broadening its colour palette to green and brown. Its classic suits in beige, white and black have been updated thanks to ethnic feel accessories.

Naulover.
More traditional navy style can be found at Naulover, with straight lines and a nod to neutral tones in knitted dresses and suits. The sport look has been catered for by Nau Sport, its footwear and accessories line which combines elegance and comfort.
Playful accessories
Accessories by Siempreesviernes by José Castro follow the trend for animal prints and neons in accessories, creating a complete look thanks to matching sandals, bags and wraps.
Mo by María Roca presented a perhaps contradictory simple yet baroque collection, where velvet and passementerie featured heavily in bags, purses, belts and brooches. Stand-out items included the black pearl straps, satin fringes and tassels, as well as zebra and leopard prints in harmony with softer flesh tones.

Alexandra Plata.

Drap.
Luna Llena found inspiration in summer love, proposing clothes, accessories and footwear which, without losing sight of their ethnic roots, are strengthened with floaty fabrics, feathers and crystals.
Alexandra Plata was present at the trade fair with three new jewellery collections. The first, more casual and urban, proposes silver pieces with zirconium, as well as chains in luminous colours. Natural stones, such as quartz and amethyst, are set in silver for a more elegant and sophisticated alternative.
Drap reminds us not to forget occasionwear accessories, with rhinestone lighting up brooches, hair bands, fascinators and clutch bags, in red, grey, black and purple.
