NEXT TRADESHOW DATES
9-13 September 2010
February is fashion month in Madrid. Just a few days before Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week gets underway, the Ifema convention centre showcased next season’s jewellery and accessory trends at the Iberjoya, Bisutex and Eurobijoux trade shows. In the meantime, a few halls further over, SIMM was unveiling the latest looks in ready-to-wear for autumn/winter 2010/11.
Iberjoya, glamour with a Spanish flavour
If you’re looking for the last word in sumptuousness, Dámaso Martínez is the place to go. The brand uses coloured gems in a collection that this time has gone for a rather younger target. Rubies and black and white diamonds are combined in a luxurious but casual trio. The jewellery brand has also used moonstones in all their different shades in conjunction with coral for an exquisite look for summer.

Colour is also the basis for the most dazzling collection yet to come from Argyor, with stones in black, white and pink set in gold which resorts to technology for perfect weight results. Outsized designs inspired by cephalopods with a striated surface combine pink, white and yellow gold with black lacquer and diamonds in a dreamlike universe.

Bernat Rubí goes for the most casual kind of luxury in a unisex collection of leather bracelets with gold and silver. In a more sophisticated line in black & white, with black and white diamond in minimalist pieces. New this year is a series for newborn babies with tiny gold chains and charm bracelets which evoke an infant world.

Bisutex, XXL accessories for winter 2011
Running simultaneous to Iberjoya is Bisutex, the exhibition devoted to fashion jewellery. Oversized formats were again the rage, rubbing shoulders with other characterful designs.
At the Jorge Revilla stand, “big” was the theme, with everything from chains to pendant and brooches in large sizes. Natural stones added colour to bracelets, with aquamarine and pearl textures, as well as silver and diamond.

Joi d’Art has gone for an industrial look, with forms and volume that emulate scrap metal, plus bulky bracelets shaped by careful beating.
Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, with her naïve range in silver and enamel, exhibited one of the show’s most colourful offering.

With all her usual skills, Elena Cáncer had more surprises in store in the shape of maxi-jewellery from rusted brass, painted and varnished by hand by Spanish jewellers. Studs and Czech crystal – covered in cream-coloured lacquer – featured in accessories created for modern-day warriors, like singer Shakira, who is a regular customer. The designer’s mesh bibs, her unusual springs and fringes will soon go on show in a worthwhile retrospective.

Uno de 50 dived into the depths of the Pacific Ocean to draw its inspiration from treasures, shapes and colours that pay a vibrant tribute to Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson. Leather details are reminiscent of the stems of palm trees; green and blue resin evokes crystal clear waters; old coins and medallions are like something out of a pirate’s treasure chest. New this time is the brand’s first children’s collection, with matching sets for mothers and children. The creative team has designed several outfits in two sizes, like a colourful bead bracelet with charms of flowers, hearts, fish, keys and padlocks.

Iturmendi & Quirós brought the collections of El Caballo and Flamenco to Bisutex, as well as new children’s creations by Pocoyo. For El Caballo, María Ignacia Iturmendi has designed bib necklaces from silver and amethyst, garnet and peridote. A collection of medals, in tribute to Andalucía, reproduces the most venerated images of the Virgin Mary from the Easter processions. For a contemporary note, there are cute shoe and flip flop charms dangling from chains. The sailor inspiration of the latest collection by Nicolas Vaudelet for El Caballo takes the shape of leather girths, hooks and anchors.

For Flamenco, Iturmendi has created articles with a decidedly ethnic flavour from natural stone. Textile detail like cretonne buttons, pompoms, silk laces and decorative objects hang from bracelets and pendants. A sophisticated touch comes from a line in Finnish quartz and agate, plus an exquisite range of micro-pearls.
Textile details are also the Laga signature, with filigree rings, vintage seals and bead bib necklaces, in a retro look for the season to come.

Yokana
Yokana presented Spanish top model Laura Sánchez as the face of the brand at Bisutex, in addition to diverse collections featuring prints and embroidery. Multi-looped necklaces in bright shades, or others of shorter lengths with plenty of colour, as well as rings and ear-rings in semi-precious stones are some of the key features.
Lola Casademunt went for pastel shades. On this occasion, instead of separating gold from silver, she chose both, with an emphasis on sensual, ethnic rings.

Eurobijoux, arty fantasy made in Spain
From February 4 to 7, running parallel to the other two shows, at the Feria de Madrid convention centre, Eurobijoux brought together Spanish manufacturers with a long tradition and expertise in the world of fashion accessories.
Madreperla took its pearl range one step further in colours dictated by trend (red, blue, violet, pink...) combined with a host of materials, from pewter to fur, steel and natural stones.

Clara Bijoux
For the new Clara Bijoux collection, Clara Torres looked to the classics for a new line in fashion accessories. Old hair slides, in the brand’s trademark enamel, have been turned into brooches and pendants and proved a hit with buyers from Italy, Russia and Japan. Painted by hand, its printed brass and pewter articles have a decidedly Art Deco feel and today are even on sale in museum shops.

Plastimoda
Bracelets, necklaces and chokers by Nadia Rabosio hug the skin as if embroidered on. For this collection, entitled Mar, the designer has drawn her inspiration from the foaming sea as it makes its way across the shore with gracefully original and artistic results.
Plastimoda has worked with transparency to create this latest collection from ultra-light plastic. Gentle colours with opaque finishes feature on designs in green, turquoise, orange and pistachio.
