Spring/summer 2010 collections from more than 500 Spanish and international brands went on show at Madrid International Fashion Week (SIMM), which once again chose July for its summer edition. Stand by stand, we pick the key trends that will be filling next year?s wardrobes, from the cool and sophisticated to the carefree and relaxed.
Youth and colour
The Spanish brand Muchacha is about to celebrate its 20th birthday and presented three lines for the occasion: Muchacha, with bright Mediterranean-style print dresses, a more youthful night look from Muchacha Show, with tops to sport with jeans, and Chica Chic, in single colours, designed to go well with the rest of the collection.

Laga's dresses have a delicately retro feel about them, with polka dots in natural shades like khaki, forest green and camel. To go with them, there are canvas cases with leather handles, little chain bags and irresistible vintage fashion jewellery.

Savage Couture
Patchwork dominated at the Savage Couture stand, in dresses and coats which turned their back on the understated in favour of unexpected frills, ribbing, sequins, powerful graphics and embroidered sayings like "Home, sweet home".
Guitare gave T-shirts pride of place in its next summer collection, with exuberant designs and plenty of metallic sheen. Ethnic styles rubbed shoulders with the rustic and na?ve, as did Liberty prints and handmade drawings.

Ethnic flavour
Flamenco has given its footwear an extra boost. Patent leather versions have subtle die-cut detail edged in contrasting shades. Long dresses are worn with stoles in the brand?s characteristic bright prints, plus dozens of accessories to make this a versatile collection for both women and girls.

Less vibrant colourwise, but equally ethnic in spirit is Yokana, with its flowing dresses to be worn with ultra-long bead necklaces, shawls and acid-toned bags.
Mamatayoe's colourful collection is inspired by the idea of six friends (Lola, Lupe, Aki, Ginger, Saran and Indi) travelling to the world?s top fashion capitals, with motifs inspired by graphics, brooches and appliqu?.

Feathers add an ethnic touch to the Tantra collection, with clutch bags and a new range of hair accessories. Textiles are radiantly floral, and pure white is combined with blue, fuchsia or green. Oversized glossy bags are made from the finest materials.

Jota + Ge presented Coquette, a collection for sizes 46 to 56. The design duo's highly personal prints are the perfect match for carefully-designed volume and drop sleeves. Camisoles, twin sets and dresses are favourites in a collection that includes party designs coordinated with diverse types of bolero.

Almatrichi
A large lounge area with lacquered furniture and cosy sofas was the set for the ultra feminine Almatrichi universe, where dresses and shirts in geometric patterns are adorned with romantic ruffles and bows.
Fabric research has guided the Mercedes de Miguel collection, which contrasts warm neutral beige and camel with bright turquoise and mauve. Metallic and crinkle linen give oomph to otherwise simple party dresses and the casual range has ?shape-memory? fabrics of metallic appearance and others resembling paper. The brand?s trademark hand-painted prints also feature.

Charo Ruiz
Charo Ruiz presented her Kids collection for girls, with dazzling ad lib designs in pure white. Here emerald green adds a more urban feel.
Fashion knits
Diktons went for a ?chainmail? effect in pareos and jackets. Sky blue brightens up a collection with cute capes with crocheted collars and lace. Grey, white and sandy brown complete the brand's delicate and sensual palette.

Viriato
Knit master Viriato has boleros and polo shirts with frilly sleeves. His flowing jackets in earthy shades defy gravity. Escol?, on the other hand, has gone for a more classical look, sticking to pastel colours with white and pink or sky blue in ageless designs.
Naulover has impeccable designs in elegant styles, while TMX has an updated sensual and relaxed feel in its equally interesting knits.
Party trends
Dresses and coats by Veneno ? Toni Francesc?s second brand ? plunge us into a darkly glamorous world, dominated by deep shades of purple, grey, forest green and burgundy, with contrasting texture and volume.

Cabotine

Matilde Cano
Cabotine has long, flowing dresses and glossy finishes, while Matilde Cano offers rich ochre prints and sensual numbers in black and white, as well as party and ceremonial wear.
Fashion accessories
Drap has extended its bag formats and gone for envelope-style wallets. Beading and shimmer are the key to a collection replete with shawls and elegantly flowing jackets.

Lola Casademunt
Lola Casademunt has once again gone for colour in this latest offering which continues with lilac and gives extra prominence to fuchsia, blue, black and grey, used in a mosaic style. Knitted shawls are bright and colourful, while chocolate brown bags are combined with natural and synthetic leather.
More restraint was applied by Alexandra Plata, whose choice of colours remained bright in her new stretch bracelets and silver onyx designs for evening. Knots and other nautical elements feature in her Amarres line, while her expanded range of menswear includes casual leather bracelets with silver clasps and cufflinks in various shades of blue.
