The 42nd edition of Iberjoya – the International Jewellery, Silverware and Auxiliary Industries Exhibition - which was held in parallel with the 56th International Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Trade Fair,Bisutex, has just taken place in Madrid (January 14-18, 2009). Both events presented collections for the spring/summer 2009 season. Together with Intergift, the three events form the new show group: Intergift.
Iberjoya, luxury and fashion
Ever more frequently jewellery companies are launching collections in line with the latest fashion trends. The best example is Luxenter, the star of one of the most glamorous Iberjoya stands. Mencía Moreno, its creative director, has designed a bright collection with several lines that differ from each other by their colour. Ametrine, in colours that range from lilac to yellow, predominates in one of the most spring-like ranges, while sunstone, in a hypnotic foundation tone, reigns in pieces designed for tanned skins. As a major new initiative, the company has launched a bridal collection, with pearl as its star.

Grevian Joyeras has created its first Francis Montesinos jewellery collection that is now on sale. Faithful to the iconography of its Valencian designer, its silver items are covered in logos with colour coming from natural gems such as amethyst, agate, onyx and topaz. The range comprises bracelets, pendants, rings and earrings and will shortly offer designs for men.

Silk pendant by Flamenco
The company Iturmendi & Quirós is behind the jewellery collection for brands such as Flamenco and El Caballo. For the first it has opted for lively colours and an ethnic and bold look in line with its textiles, playing with silks, silver, yellow quartz and amethyst. The exquisite style of the designer María Ignacia Iturmendi can also be seen in the El Caballo collection, with coloured glazes mounted on silk. Precious and summery, the line includes rock crystal for the first time.
Argyor brought to Iberjoya the latest designs in its Siamo range, which was very successful in the United States. The Shangay Siamo range includes, for the first time, a combination of all the colours of the rainbow; and Siamo Bronzo, a line of pink gold-plated bronze items, features impressive pendants in the shape of money inspired by angels and Roman, Inca and Japanese cultures. Argyor also designs and distributes Imaginarium’s jewellery for children, comprising bracelets and earrings in enamelled silver and gold.

As de As was a few steps from the Argyor stand. Based in Gerona this brand has seductive silver pieces adorned with coloured ceramics and visible gems, creating an original mix of textures.
Tuca Roman with its new bridal collection Joya Bordado, and Elisenda Santacreu, the young Catalan designer whose modern filigree collections and multicoloured stones are already sold in France, completed what Spain had to offer in Iberjoya.

Summer comes to Bisutex
At Bisutex, the colours of summer predominated. And there was no shortage of charitable initiatives. The Spanish jeweller Chus Burés presented a bracelet designed to raise funds for the Chus Burés H20 for Africa water treatment project.

Organic earrings by Jorge Revilla
Jorge Revilla went for urban and cutting edge designs in rhodium, with captivating textured finishes with the colour black featuring heavily. Our choice out of the rest of the designs was a delicate range of clover-shaped pendants in pink or yellow gold with original meshes.

Starfish pendant by Sin Receta
Uno de 50’s stand did away with the colour red at this Bisutex to incorporate electric apple green in its new Sin Receta range. As always, the Madrid-based accessories brand pays attention to the smallest details in its packaging, which in the case of Sin Receta is presented in original plastic cases.
The unmistakably ethnic designs by Elena Cáncer seek geometry this season. The medallions with springs and flexible features create an original effect, their large size contrasting with the elasticity of the structure. The designer uses oxidised brass, in polished and lacquered hand-finishes, in all of her pieces.
In the second fashion jewellery collection presented at Bisutex by Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada there was no shortage of her characteristic motifs, such as flowers and clouds. The long beaded necklaces, always in vivid colours – fuchsia, orange, turquoise, aubergine - are faithful to the bright colours of “Agatha’s world”.

Alexandra Plata stand

Alexandra Plata’s collections, closely mirroring fashion trends, are already sold in Galeries Lafayette department stores. The company went for hallmarked silver pieces combined with enamel and semiprecious stones. The great innovation for this season is its range in rose quartz combined with cut silver and leather. Its youngest range comprises flexible bracelets in hammered silver and earrings, necklaces and bracelets studded with leather knots in different colours.
Equally with its finger on the pulse of current fashions is Laga’s costume jewellery, inspired by its own clothing collection for the spring/summer 2009 season. The fabrics used in its dresses and shirts, in tones that have a vintage air, are translated into romantic pendants and earrings designed for fashionistas.

Plata Pura, the young Cordoba-based company set up six years ago, presented an irresistible collection in silver and Murano glass with plenty of leather detail. In its first year at Bisutex, the company decided to go for rings and bracelets that were light in weight despite being big in size.
Intense colours from Asia again dominate Yokana’s designs, with XXL earrings and maxi-necklaces made from silver, leather and rope in fuchsia, orange and purple tones. In the case of Lola Casademunt, spring is presented in acid tones, with pieces where precious stones, Swarovski glass and sequins dominate, as well as fabrics and materials with a shiny finish.
