Versatility is the key word for spring/summer 2009. Wedges, medium and high heels, high platforms, flat sandals and the latest nautical designs make up the irresistible shop window of designs that were on show at the 26th Modacalzado+Iberpiel, held from 25 to 27 September in Madrid.
Sexy footwear
Glamour was represented at the fair by Spanish companies such as Mascaró, Magrit Pura López and Salvador Sapena. The Balearic company Jaime Mascaró chose python skin and metallic leather to create irresistible courts peep toes, and patent leather for original heeled sandals with sculptured platforms. Pumps in stone coloured tones and brightly coloured comfortable sandals with Velcro fasteners acted as a counterpoint of comfort in one of Modacalzado’s most popular stands.

Magrit combined intense colour and luxury in its collection for next summer, with heelless designs in gold and turquoise or fuchsia satin decorated with strass, high white sandals with strips of gems and patchwork effect lacquered wedges that coordinate with handbags. The two-coloured heel platform shoes in warm tones and white peep toes, perfect for brides, complete its designs. The range of whites is also present in the Farrutx collection, with sandals in avant-garde designs made from laminated materials.

Farrutx
Mustang’s most feminine brand, María Mare, launched its new image at Modacalzado, with high ankle sandals, crossed strips or fringes made from laminated materials.
Sacha London was present at the show with its Sacha London lines, Sachelle and Sacha Too for men. The first presented sandals in metallic materials with 12 cms heels. Sachelle, aimed at the urban woman, goes for medium height in designs of soft and natural textures.

Looky
The extreme sensuality of Pura López, with courts in nude tones and stone combined with exquisitely matching bags, and glamorous sandals in cream, toffee and chocolate by Salvador Sapena, both flat as well as with powerful heels, were some of the sexiest designs on show at the exhibition. Designs for parties and special events were the main attraction at Menbur’s stand, with silk sandals that coordinated with purses adorned with same-colour floral appliqués in turquoise or ivory.

Today’s classics
Classic styles and the use of more exquisite materials characterise the designs of Spanish companies such as Barrats 1890, whose suede shoes for men in camel with sailing motifs are an example of distinction. Medium-sized heels and cream tones are the most prominent feature in its women’s collection, in which care for detail is evident in the small strass details in the buckles and the stitches that run along the instep. Greys and navy blues dominate a large and subtle chromatic range of colours.
Pons Quintana launched a series of impressive platforms at Modacalzado that varied in height between 2.5 and 7 cms, in some cases covered. The penchant for platforms even carried over to sports shoes, while its irresistible ballet pumps came in violet, turquoise, red and multicoloured options.

Martinelli

Magnanni

Zampiere
Martinelli, the classic standard for men’s footwear has updated its emblematic moccasin with new materials, such as patent leather and crocodile skin, and with daring patterns in bright colours. Its Goleen line evokes the style of the 1920s, while its cricket shoes are reinvented with light and soft textures. Clean cuts and exquisite finishes characterise Magnanni men’s designs, with a special liking for buckles as an ornamental feature, and also the classic Zampiere designs.
Rebels and youth
Companies such as XTI have set a self-confident note at this Modacalzado event. Its stand, full of colour, was the site for some of the youngest designs seen at the fair, such as courts with conical heels, peep toe pumps in light tones with side openings and patent leather sandals in bright colours with high wedges.

Alima
Alima decorated its laceless sports shoes with bands of strass, putting colourful floral decorations on patent leather peep toes and lengthening the toes of its black and cream pumps. Also from the Marshoes group, KTW has gone a step further in its approach to patterns with patchworks that combine materials and a mix of Liberty, Vichy and sailing prints in its pumps and sports shoes. Its tricolour wedges and men’s espadrilles with 1970s patterns make up one of the most original designs seen in the fair. Ras, the third Marshoes brand at Modacalzado, brought a pump design to the fair with more personality than most: laminated, flexible and gathered around the foot, it appears to be decorated with metallic bubbles in different sizes.

For next summer Gioseppo is going for multicoloured sneakers with brightly patterned graffitist designs, sports shoes with laces in energy tones and flip flops coordinated with raffia baskets decorated with pieces of denim and studs.
Gradated effects and perforated materials are the key novelties presented by Victoria, that relaunched its mythical Bamba brand with a retro collection aimed at urban youth between 20 and 45 years old.

Miss Callaghan
Vienty takes care over every detail in its new collection, saving its original patterns that evoke African jungles and green fields for the inside of its shoes. Canvas, jute, denim and leather are the materials used for its unmistakable designs full of fantasy.
Comfort footwear the latest fashion
Callaghan launched a collection in Modacalzado inspired by sailing, comprising moccasins and nautical shoes that combine whites, blues and reds. For its collaboration with the NGO Global Humanitaria it has chosen ultraflexible sports shoes decorated with geographic motifs in white and black, while its women’s line Miss Callaghan threw up a surprise with stylish patent leather pumps with slightly square toes that seem to be decorated with buckles in the instep in contrasting colours.

Fluchos

Nordikas
Fluchos is going for sporty lines and smooth forms, and as a novelty it has a handy rounded shoetree. Backstitches, zigzags, chrome bands, metal appliqués and dots decorate its moccasins, sports and nautical shoes.
Maximum comfort, again, is what Nordika’s has gone for with homewear designs in which there is no shortage of Scottish checks, with glitter and bright colours.
Children’s footwear follows the trend
Stars from the Disney factory, from Mickey Mouse to more recent children’s idols such as stars from High School Musical and Camp Rock play a leading role in the spring/summer 2009 collection from Gioseppo Kids.
Gorila, the children’s brand from the Hergar group, won over visitors to Modacalzado with stylish sandals with a sports sole, as did the Balearic firm Ponti, with irresistible pumps decorated with subtle bows on the instep and classic lace up shoes for children.

Pablosky

Pablosky
Red, white, brown, dusty rose and blue prevail in the collection from Pablosky, comprising sandals, pumps, nautical and sports shoes. The main features are two-coloured designs and a mix of textures, while the patterns, from flowers to anagrams, include stars and checks.
Cienta, with its canvas shoes, Vichy check sandals and sandals with small frills, complete the most original set of children’s designs at the show.
The magic of accessories
In Modacalzado+Iberpiel there is also a place for accessories. The softness of velvet features heavily in the current designs from Cats, with big shopping bags in striking shades and doctor's bags in dusty colours.

Puntotres

Dimoni
Puntotres launched a colourful collection where there is no shortage of more acidic tones nor earthy colours, camel and whites on bags with bright finishes and made from crocodile, snake and ostrich skin.
Dimoni, with flexible doctor's bags decorated with leather flaps; Loeds, with designs padded with dark tones; and Drap Barcelona, with its unmistakable purses and hand bags with gems and sequins, complete the line of accessories on offer next spring/summer 2009 presented in Modacalzado+Iberpiel.
