    NEXT SHOW DATES

    4-6 July 2008

Winter textures: Leaves, Water And Wood was the theme under which some 200 exhibitors from Spain, Portugal, Denmark, France, Italy and the UK met at FIMI in Valencia. Visitors came from Russia, Britain, France, Italy, Portugal and the Middle East to see the products on offer.

Spanish brands top the bill

Foque designs were based on children’s stories. Glossy materials using lurex contrasted with the warmth of wool, mainly in red, black and white, updating a classic style.

AKR Kids and its second brand Miobic drew on topics that ranged from Scandinavia to rock and robots in its children’s winter clothes. One thing in common though, was vibrant colour. Wool, corduroy, denim and above all cotton, were the fabrics of choice.

  • El Baúl de Pinocho

El Baúl de Pinocho had one of FIMI’s most striking stands, designed like a wendy house. The brand has dressed kids in its imaginative designs since the Eighties and the rich prints and strong contrasts of this collection were no exception.

Pan con Chocolate presented a collection based on a Fifties silhouette, with close-fitting waistlines and balloon skirts. Provencal-style patterns looked quaint in sky-blue, green, mauve and mustard with splashes of gold for an elegant note in these top quality designs.

  • Lourdes

Another key brand at FIMI was Lourdes, which brought more of its imaginative, highly personal style. Classic embroidered kids’ drawings and multiple felt and braid detail enrich these clothes in sky-blue and brown. Tweed, wool, flannel and cotton of the highest quality were the key materials.

Barcarola shows that there is nothing staid about ceremonial wear and comes up with something new every season. This winter’s surprises included taffeta dresses in unusual colours like black and white combined in plain fabrics, or geometric prints. Another solid kidswear brand is Bugui Bugui, which splashed out on its trademark detail: meticulous lace edging, velvet and sumptuous embroidery.

FIMI would not be complete without Tuc Tuc, which presented a very extensive winter collection based on colour, quality and design. Bright colour filled fabrics like wool and cotton, while the Spanish brand also presented a line of matching accessories, with hats and scarves, umbrellas, bags and Wellington boots.

FIMI Children’s´ footwear
Footwear brands had a strong showing at the tradeshow. Cuquito brought back more of the cute designs that care for youngsters’ feet. For next winter, it has gone for treated leather with glossy vintage effect and Swarovski detail. Cuquito Soft is for home or nursery, while Cuquito 18 Kilates includes four hand-made designs edged in pearl, gold and natural silk.

  • Calzados Eli

In the throngs of a corporate image boost involving restyling of tools and packaging, Calzados Eli presented its three lines Cucada, Papanatas and Eli Driver. The latest collection is elegant and stylish with iridescent bar-shoes and bright colour, not forgetting classic moccasins.

FIMI Catwalk
The Formula 1 Grand Prix due to be held in Valencia next year was the perfect excuse for the set design at this year’s FIMI Catwalk. The racing circuit catwalk turned kids into pilots for a day as they modelled the latest collections. The Spanish brands Tuc Tuc, AKR Kids, Lourdes, El Baúl de Pinocho, Barcarola and Pan con Chocolate, along with international names like Giesswein, Girándola, Lego and Me Too, presented personal collections which differed in design but shared the high quality of their materials and designs.
