    NEXT SHOW DATES

    March 2008

The International Shoes and Leather Goods Fair, Modacalzado + Iberpiel, became the foremost trend showcase for the upcoming Spring- Summer 2008. A total of 670 exhibitors travelled from 16 countries to participate in the event’s twentieth edition, confirming its leadership position as the Spanish sector’s first retail event and the third in Europe.

The power of the ergonomic shoe
Once again, Callaghan has appeared at Modacalzado with one of the most impressive stands, decorated with large advertising images that conveyed the comfort that results from employing Adaptaction technology. This technology allows the body of the shoe to adapt to changes in the foot’s width that occur with each step we take. The Spring-Summer 2008 collection is the first that the brand has completely manufactured using this technology, both with the casual designs, as well as the more sophisticated designs. The company has focused it efforts on the women’s line with ballerinas, Mary Janes, and sandals in metallic tones today’s latest prints.

  • Panama Jack

  • KTW

For men, Callaghan has updated its boat shoes line with more youthful models and has opted for softer earth tones in its sports line, the company’s biggest seller. After having strengthened its presence in Korea, Mexico and Russia throughout 2007, the company will open its own shop in China in 2008.

Panama Jack stands by its strong commitment to continuity with high-quality sports-casual shoe wear, designed for those who love adventure and travelling and who seek designs that maintain their explorer spirit while in the city. At Modacalzado, they have presented a new line with a worn and rugged look, created from waterproof leather and featuring a technological fibre interior. For Summer 2008, they have also revealed a second collection for their Caribbean Palm model, last summer’s huge success.

Following Pikolinos' acquisition of Martinelli, both companies participated in Modacalzado with two spectacular, adjacent and interconnecting stands. Pikolinos highlights its preference for comfortable shapes created by natural leathers. They have introduced new colours for next summer, such as sand and olive, and have also updated various ranges with “sportier” lines aimed at a young public. The company has enhanced its women’s collection with the Romana line, comprised of braided ballerinas with different colours. In general, the women’s collection offers much more feminine models, including romantic styles, wedges and bright colours, with medium-sized handbags to match.

The youngest, trendiest and most urban side of Modacalzado
For the younger public, next summer will once again see platforms, thick heels (more restrained than last season’s), as well as dizzyingly-high heels, accompanied by energetic tones and a glam spirit. One look at the El Dantés stand left no room for doubt, with gold and silver sparkling in the high-style designs for youth with a feistier spirit. With a presence in more than 40 countries, the company participated in the 1st Spanish Exhibition in Dubai from 8 to 10 September, held at the Jumelrah Emirats Toser Hotel.

  • Gioseppo

  • Sendra Boots

  • Rebeca Sanver

The children’s brand, KTW surprised us with the most festive and care-free stand. The popular DJ Miqui Puig spun the most avant-garde selection of dance music for those who entered to discover the company’s latest designs. KTW is well on its way to being a trend-setter with its cork platforms, navy stripes, transparent vinyl, jewelled flip-flops, mirror sneakers and colourful ballerinas. Liberty prints appear in many of the collection’s designs, both the women’s and, surprisingly, the men’s. The stand also features the new line designed for the fashion brand, Potipoti, created from espadrilles with naïf prints for boys and girls.

Enormous plush toys gave way to the refreshing Gioseppo stand, where the most “pop” shoe wear awaited us, featuring black-and-white polka-dot designs, daring models in fluorescent and metallic shades and sportier patent-leather styles in bright tones. Committed to the environment, the company presented the line it has developed in collaboration with WWF/Adena. A portion of these sales will go towards preserving the biological richness of the Mediterranean.

Patricia's collection presented at Modacalzado was created using the patented Sistema Mixto (Mixed System), which combines craftsmanship and mechanical processes in models with one part mounted and the other wrapped. The result is a very flexible shoe, such as strap sandals with medium-sized wedges, or the Care line, which features a reflex and crystal therapy sole.

True to its spirit, Sendra Boots revealed its new cowboy and motorcycle styles, always created using Goodyear welt technology. The company maintains its timeless look as regards lines and style and has presented the white boot model adorned with Swarovski crystals and a belt to match, created at the request of the Austrian multi-national cut crystal company.

Updated classics
Several of the most traditional Spanish companies participated in the fair, such as Barrats, which has won us over with its elegant white moccasins for women featuring an instep adorned with sporty, sand-coloured straps and bamboo accents.

Ethnic inspiration distinguishes the Spring-Summer collection of the company Jaime Mascaró from Mallorca. It continues to be loyal to all things chic, which sets it collection apart with elegant salon shoes and low-cut evening shoes made from silver snakeskin, grey-toned crocodile and various leathers. Natural linen is the most popular addition for bright designs which are ideal for going on holiday. Its sister brand, Úrsula Mascaró, wholeheartedly opts for patent leathers, navy and leopard prints, and camouflage, which results in a daring look that is half rock and half safari.

  • Salvador Sapena

  • Pablosky

  • Yanko

Once again, the veteran company Pons Quintana seduces us with its traditional braided styles, featured in urban and multi-purpose designs with wedges of varying heights. Platforms will reach new heights next summer, with sandals in a variety of shades: metallic, bronze, steel, etc. There are ballerinas aplenty in rust or chocolate tones, lilac or with silver accents.

Along the same lines as Pons Quintana, Farrutx moves more towards braided styles for next summer, as well as grille patterns in designs that seek to capture the Mediterranean light. Two-toned wedges and metallic heels are the most attention-grabbing designs of its new collection.

With a more timeless flair, Yanko finds inspiration in the 1950s for its models with sober lines and leather-lined heels with a metallic finish. The men's line gives off a more British flair with designs created with Goodyear tailoring. Sinela opts for the ebony-ivory pairing for its salon shoes in nude tones adorned with bows and floral accents.

The sensuality of Pedro García’s designs and the sophistication of Paco Gil and Salvador Sapena have made their presence known at Modacalzado, with models featuring dizzyingly-high heels and the most chic elegance.

For smaller feet
Children’s shoe wear has also made its mark at Modacalzado. Pablosky has presented energetic designs in pastel, electric blue and green tones. Amongst their models we love sailcloth shoes in gingham, flower prints, polka dots and stripes. Imitation snakeskin sandals and ballerinas in all possible combinations round off a collection that will delight the youngest public.

Gorila’s contribution to the event has been its collection created in collaboration with the NGO Global Humanitaria, with prints inspired by drawings made by children who benefit from the organisation’s projects. Blues, greens and yellows are the colours featured in this tender and casual collection.

  • Puntotres

  • Drap

  • Olimpo

Iberpiel Glamour
In the spaces reserved for the leather goods companies, we have discovered the new Puntotres collection, comprised of ivory-coloured, medium-sized handbags bordered with leather, in some cases, or adorned with distorted polka-dots in stone shades. The most daring designs are from a line featuring very bright silver tones. And one cannot miss the sparkle of the evening bags by Drap and the irresistible bags by Cats.

Olimpo has presented compact, chocolate-brown briefcases and women’s belts with round buckles in bright shades and created with striking materials, such as patent leather.

A variety of activities and exhibitions have taken place during the course of Modacalzado + Iberpiel a well. One example is Cistallized, which brought together a spectacular collection of shoes adorned with crystals by the Austrian company, Swarovski.
