Nice Things, fashion for mothers and daughters

19 July 2010

Creativity, colour, originality and femininity are the watchwords for Nice Things, with fashion and accessories designed for a woman with a very personal style. Designer Paloma Santaolalla tells Fashionfromspain.com more about the brand's “very nice things”.

Nice Things was created in 1995, how did the idea come about?
Miquel Lanna, my partner and husband, and I had created a company called Globe many years earlier, and after more than 25 years in textiles design, production and distribution, we decided to take the plunge and created the Intermalla Group in 1995, to launch a womenswear brand called Nice Day.
In 2002, we decided to create Nice Things in response to a growing demand for accessories, and finally, in 2008 we merged the two initiatives under the title Nice Things Paloma S.
From the outset, we wanted to create womenswear based on comfort and personality.

Why choose the name Nice Things for a Spanish brand?
For us, Nice Things are what Nice Day is making, making your day that little bit better in the process... The word 'nice' has the strength to change everything that goes with it, its optimism is contagious; it makes everything it touches special and charming... that is what we wanted to do with our collections.

Describe the clothes made by Nice Things? What are you aiming for?
People wearing Nice are passionate about fresh styles that fit with any age or personality, and that’s important to us. In fact, our target has no set age, it covers everything from two-year-old girls to 80 year-old ladies.
Our customers choose Nice Things because they can look good in them at any time of day, whether working, shopping or partying… and the secret lies in the comfort and personality of the designs and all the combinations they make possible.

What are your maxims?
Taking care of the detail, creativity, colour, femininity, personalisation, imagination, excitement and feeling.

What are the women who identify with Nice Things generally like?
Our designs are for a woman of any age, for whom comfort is important and who also likes to feel good with her image whatever the time of day.

Have women’s tastes changed since you started out in fashion? Have they become more demanding?
Today there is a very wide offer and plenty to choose from and so customers don’t have to make do with the first thing they see. At the same time, that very variety tends to standardise fashion, which is why at Nice Things, we like to go for different creations with their own character so that customers can have their own style and are not slaves to fashion.
