Cuquito, walking with you

30 January 2012

How did you start out, classic or casual?
Classic. One model, one colour: navy blue. After that, they created the same model in other colours and then started to increase the number of models. They wanted a safe bet, but we always said that we grew as we learned how to become Cuquito.

What is the cut-off age for Cuquito shoes?
When we started out, we made shoes for babies, but naturally we grew along with our children and created one line for crawling in and another for walking in. The natural course of development led us to create different baby ranges and other lines up to 4 years old.

What lines does Cuquito offer?
Within Cuquito there is the baby line, which is divided into a romantic line and a more classic ceremonial and fashion line. In addition, we have just launched Cuquito Xtreme in the FIMI tradeshow, a line based on the trend of dressing children like their parents. We wanted to offer something different, quality shoes but in miniature.
The second line, also a recent debutant, is Gatea, for children who are learning to walk. We have decided to focus on fashion and abandon the classic designs. This line has important technical features such as a reinforced toe, a reinforced M-shaped heel, designed especially for crawling in, there is no interior stitching, the sole is light and flexible, and it is made entirely of leather so it is breathable.
This product was developed in partnership with the Biomechanics Institute of Valencia (IBV) and the Children’s Orthopaedics Institute of Valencia.
Lastly, we have Cuquito Up, specially created for children who already walk, with classic and fashionable designs. We also decided to extend this line with the Cuquito Up Weekend range, more orientated towards free time with a tennis-style shoe for summer and Mary Jane shoes in velvet for winter.

When you work in the world of baby fashion, are trends important?
Definitely, because we aim to complement the child’s total look. It’s true that we’re not as preoccupied with trends as garment producers, but we do want to be in the market and you always have to keep up with the colour that’s in fashion.
So the new Xtreme line is made for this market because children are dressed like their parents, but also because the sports shoe is sold in fashion shops. Delete We also want to go here, because we also believe that our product suits these sales points.

In this attempt to look after babies’ feet, the choice of material is essential, would you agree?
Absolutely. For us it is fundamental and almost 85% of us work with lambskin (for the baby line) and cowskin (for the crawling and up lines). We also work with fabrics, which are almost always natural, such as cotton and a small amount of detailed fabrics such as velvet, satin, etc.

Tell me about this new third-generation era of Cuquito?>
Amadeo Folqués Diago has been in charge of managing the company for a couple of years now, but he worked for the company for a long time before that. He has a lot of training and is very well prepared since he has worked in every department and therefore knows the company inside out.
Since he arrived, Cuquito has made a breakthrough into the digital world, and has improved its website. We have also developed our own blog and are trying to create a strong presence on Facebook. We want to interact with our customers and win them over through face to face interaction.
