Interview with Clemente Cebrián, co-founder of El Ganso

Brothers Álvaro and Clemente Cebrián are the founders of El Ganso. Though created in Madrid in September 2004 under the trade-name Acturus Textil S.L., the fashion brand only began operating in its own right in 2006.

Its men’s and women’s footwear and accessories collections sport a modern ‘British’ look, using Welsh and Scotch tartan in classic designs with unusual detail like the original braiding on its jackets. Its secret lies in a fun, but elegant style where fabric quality takes top priority.

Though small, El Ganso notched up turnover of €300,000 in 2006 and expects to hit €800,000 by the end of 2007. The company consolidated its position in August 2006, with the opening of its first shop on Madrid’s busy shopping street, Calle Fuencarral. Now el Ganso has standalones in Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca as well. Its clothes are available at multi-brand retailers in Oviedo, Zaragoza and San Sebastián. Abroad, they are sold in two multi-brand stores in the USA, in New York and California. El Ganso footwear is distributed in Italy.

El Ganso collections appeared at top international trade shows like Bread and Butter Berlin, Who´s Next Paris and Magic Las Vegas, in 2006.
