    Kavita Parmar's interview.

Spanish fashion brand Raasta takes its name from the Hindi word for “The Path”. It was founded in Madrid in 2001 by Kavita Parmar, who is also creative director. Raasta’s rather different take on fashion is the expression of a personal style seen from a romantic perspective. Every garment in the collection gives its wearer the chance to be different.

Raasta is not about following fashion. Instead, it offers personal style through original but timeless designs and top quality materials. The Raasta team weaves its own fabrics, makes its own prints and hand embroiders its garments using ancient techniques. Its collections are created from the synergies of different artisans.

Having accumulated a sizeable portfolio of almost a hundred clients in Spain, Raasta went global in 2005 with a spring-summer 2006 collection which made its debut in Tranoï, Paris.Since then it has travelled to Europe’s top tradeshows, including Who’s next, Paris sur mode, Bread & Butter Barcelona and D&A New York.

Raasta sells to 19 countries, each with a very different culture, including USA, France, UK, Italy, Greece, UAE and Japan. Its spring-summer 2007 is also on sale at leading French department store Galeries Lafayette, in an area devoted to young designers.
