Pepe Mateu studied Fine Arts in Paris, before joining the design team of his family’s firm, which has been in the accessories business for the best part of two centuries. His solo career began in 1974, when he created Pepe Mateu Santaeularia. Over the last 30 years, he has carved out a niche for himself with products ranging from men’s accessories – including everything from buckles to belts – to women’s fashion jewellery, hats, bags and bracelets. In his hands, the conventional button is no mere functional object, but a veritable fashion treasure.
In December 2002, a dream came true for Mateu when he opened his first shop in Barcelona (at 149, Pau Clarís). Here you will find all the brand’s latest offerings in a boutique designed by Pepe himself. Today, the designer is supported by a young, dynamic team, capable of producing the hottest looks each season, whilst preserving the cultural side the founder has always championed in his fashion accessories.
Pepe Mateu is a regular at the Pitti Uomo trade show in Florence and Bread & Butter Barcelona. The brand’s collections are available from multi-brand boutiques around the world, including Munich (Germany), Los Angeles (USA), Jeddam (Saudi Arabia), Shanghai (China), Santa Fe de Bogotá (Colombia), Mexico City, Athens (Greece) and Doha (Qatar).
