Behind top-end costume jewellery and mainstay accessories producer la. is Flor Vaquero, the designer and entrepreneur who founded the company in 2004. Flor Vaquero’s eclectic approach is a tribute not just to Renaissance works, but to the sensuality of the nineteen twenties and the symbolism of Gustav Klimt, to Hockney’s chromatism and the tones and textures of nature.
la. has attracted attention to itself through a careful selection of points of sale catering for a specialist audience. In 2005, Flor Vaquero opened her studio-office in Madrid, and at the end of the same year worked with cut-crystal producer Swarovski on the popular Runway Rocks show held as part of the Gaudí Catwalk in Barcelona, where her work featured alongside that of leading international designers like Philip Tracy, Andrés Sardá and Jordi Labanda. She took part in the show a second time when it was held during Paris Fashion Week in 2006, paving the way for her international launch in a meticulous image campaign publicising her exquisite products. Not long afterwards, young designer Juanjo Oliva used her designs to accompany his spring-summer 2007 collection at Madrid’s Cibeles Catwalk.
The la. style is versatile and timeless. With close attention to detail in bags, bracelets, hairbands, scarves and gloves, the label seeks to endow its wearer with confidence and seductive femininity. All the products are handmade in Spain in prestigious workshops which make goods for leading labels like Loewe. The finest materials, semi-precious stones, pearls, bone, skin, Swarovski crystal, feathers, vintage buttons and lace feature in characterful designs which have become synonymous with quality.
la. collections area are available from a select number of multi-brand Spanish retailers, and abroad in Geneva, Dubai, Miami, Milan and Saint Tropez. Flor Vaquero is now looking to new markets, primarily in the USA and the United Arab Emirates, and to consolidate her label in Europe.
