Matilde Cano presented her first ready-to-wear collection in 1976. The highly personal style of her party and ceremonial wear, reflecting the light and bright colours of her native Andalusia, was an immediate success, both in her home town of Cordoba and the rest of Spain. The designer now has seven stores, to which she will soon be adding another in Madrid.
Her meticulous treatment of raw materials (silk, gauze, muslin and chantilly) and search for elegance has struck a chord with women at home and abroad. France was the first step in the label’s international expansion. Today it is sold at multi-brand retailers all over the country and is also available in Italy and Portugal. The label’s immediate aim is to consolidate its position in Ireland, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
Matilde Cano is a regular at Madrid’s SIMM Fashion Week and at Showroom Bass Milano. She also presented her collection in Brussels last season.
The founder’s daughters Marisa and Olga both play a prominent role in the company as part of the design team, enriching its Andalusian style with a more innovative European look.
