Spanish urban plimsoll firm Maians is named after the sandy islet situated just a hundred metres off the coast of Barcelona that developed into the lively fishing district of Barceloneta.
Maians plays tribute to the traditional craftsmanship behind the footwear and the unique style of the district’s colourful characters, made up mainly fishermen and tradesmen. In fact, the firm’s moccasins, espadrilles, nautical and lace up shoes are named in honour of local residents such as Eugenio, Sisto, Jacinto or Amador. Designs featuring eco-friendly vulcanised rubber soles that combine fabrics, textures and colours with strikingly original finishes.
Under the slogan “100% handmade in Spain”, Maians has reinvented the traditional espadrilles that originated from the Pyrenees region, adding a touch of modernity. An 11-strong team, including designer Alfonso de la Fuente Rey, has revamped styles that have been around for decades, turning them into comfortable and trendy designs for men and women with a definite retro look about them. The brand is also strongly committed to caring for the environment, and all Maians footwear is made from 100% natural materials.
Maians exports 75% of its products and the brand has a sales and distribution network in numerous European countries, namely France, Germany, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Cyprus and Croatia. It also has points of sale on other major international markets such as the US, Australia, China, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, Thailand, Israel and Saudi Arabia.
Jacket Required (London), Bread&Butter (Berlin) and Compass (New York) are just a few of the trade fairs Maians regularly attends.
