Cristian Lay is a Spanish direct sales company founded in Badajoz in 1981. It started out designing exclusive jewellery and has now diversified into other areas in exemplary style. Today, it offers not only ready-to-wear jewellery, combining the best in traditional gold and silver craftsmanship with cutting-edge design, but also an extensive catalogue of articles with more than 2,000 references including watches, fashion jewellery, cosmetics and perfumery, clothes and accessories.
Its business model, based on sale by catalogue, has been instrumental in its globalisation, which began in the late Eighties. Its products are now delivered to 12 million customers in 15 countries in Europe, America and North Africa, thanks to a professional sales team made up of more than 100,000, as well as an online shop.
Cristian Lay employs 1,200 people and has an annual turnover of EUR 150 million, of which 50% comes from abroad. In 2008, it opened one of the most modern jewellery factories in Europe in Jerez de los Caballeros in the Spanish region of Extremadura.
As it has its own distribution channel, its product and design personnel regularly visit the world’s leading jewellery, fashion and cosmetic trade fairs to contact suppliers and learn about new trends, but the company does not have its own stands.
