Interview with Elena Martín.

Elena Martin is the Artistic Director and Designer for Martin Lamothe, a cutting-edge fashion label. Taking its references from the world of art, photography and video, Martin Lamothe is characterised by an international style that combines the Spanish roots of its creator and her Anglo-Saxon academic background.

She graduated in Fashion from the prestigious Central Saint Martin’s College in London aged just 21, having studied design in her home city of Barcelona and winning the Pitti Filatti prize in Florence.

She teaches Design, Fashion, Artistic Direction and Styling at several universities in Spain and Mexico, and also works with major national and international brands.

She has worked as an assistant for renowned labels such as Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, and in 2004, aged just 25, she began working as the Director of Design for Miró Jeans, Antonio Miró’s casual fashion label, cutting-edge reference in male fashion, where she stayed for four seasons, including two runway shows at the Pasarela Gaudí fashion show.

Her first appearance at the Pasarela Cibeles Fashion Show was in 2006 when she took part in El Ego, and one year later, in 2007, Martin Lamothe presented its collection with unisex leanings at Bread & Butter Barcelona, Bread & Butter Berlin, and Paris Fashion Week in Rendez Vous Paris. In 2010 the firm took part in the official runway shows of Pasarela 080 Barcelona Fashion Week and Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week.

This year the company has also opened an office in London and taken part in the London Fashion Week Exhibition.

Currently, the label’s designs can be found in the world’s leading markets, through 30 outlets, including six online stores. It is also present in select multi-brand stores in the US, Europe (Germany, Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Russia), Asia (Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan), and the Middle East (Kuwait, Dubai, Saudi Arabia).
