Hakei was created in San Sebastián in 2003 as a shop specialising in leather accessories (footwear, bags, etc.). Its shop concept has now reached seven boutiques in just three years; five in Spain and two in Portugal. In 2006, its founders, the Bilbao family, who had been working in leather and fashion since 1946, opted to expand the brand’s scope, introducing their first clothes collection. Hakei launched a new shop interior and continued to expand with a philosophy which has turned it into one of the fastest growing womenswear brands in Spain in recent years.
Each year, Hakei now launches 1,500 garment references, 1,200 accessory models and 1,000 footwear designs. The link between all three is a delicate, romantic style which strikes the perfect balance between the classic and the contemporary.
The company has two design, patterning and production control centres, one in Elche, dedicated to footwear and leather accessories, and another in La Coruña, where it produces 90% of the textiles it sells. Its head office is in the municipality of Oiartzun in Guipuzkoa (the Basque Country).
Currently, Hakei has eight standalones in Spain, four in Madrid and one each in Pamplona, San Sebastián, Barcelona and Murcia. By the end of 2010, it has plans to open a new shop in Valencia. It also has shop-in-shops in a number of Corte Inglés department stores in Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, Albacete and Málaga.
Hakei offers a dynamic shop concept. It updates its collections every week, offering women a “total Hakei look” that is always up on the latest trends, without losing that personal touch. To keep its garments exclusive, all its collections are limited editions.
In spring 2011 Hakei went global, with the opening of three shop-in-shops in the Paris department store, Galeries Lafayette.
