Spanish swimwear brand Lenita was created by Swedish designer Lenita Burman, who launched her beachwear venture in 1986, inspired by the Canary Islands, and by their people, beaches and mild climate.
After starting out as an amateur, in 1990, the designer completed a course in pattern-cut in Catalonia and launched her first professional collection, committed to R&D and going global.
Thus it was that her designs, which evolved from surfer-style, developed into trendier, more sophisticated looks. Since then, she has presented a new collection every year. Lenita Burman also designs a line in women’s swimsuits under the brand name Lilliane and the children’s brand Feet.
In 2009, Lenita made her women’s lingerie debut with XTG, in the wake of the success of the Burmen men’s brand, of which she is joint proprietor. The same year, she presented her first couture line comprising five swimwear designs produced in limited 125-piece editions.
Lenita has been on the catwalk on several occasions at the SIMM International Fashion Fair in Madrid and more recently in 2009, at Mode City Interfilière in Paris and Body Look, Düsseldorf. It has also contributed creations for the GDS International Event for Shoes & Accessories, held in the same German city.
The brand also attends other exhibitions like the Salon International de la Lingerie (France); Dessous Wallau, Dessous Paradis and Venus (Germany); and CurveNY and Duty Free Show of the Americas (USA).
Burmen, SL, which designs, produces and distributes Lenita and XTG, currently has a permanent workforce of 55.
Lenita has four shops of its own and one under franchise in the Canaries and over the next few months is set to open in Madrid, London’s Soho and Prague. In Spain, it distributes to another 200 POS and has more than 50 POS abroad, both multi-brand and department store.
Lenita’s export rate stands at around 20%. Germany, Andorra, Belgium, Dubai, France, Netherlands, Japan, Monaco, Portugal, South Africa, Switzerland and UK are its main international markets.
