Platino is one of Spain’s oldest hosiery firms: it was founded in 1921, when it began manufacturing rayon and natural silk stockings with seams, as was the fashion at that time. Since then, the company's philosophy has been to offer the market high-quality innovative products that follow the latest fashion trends.
In 1949, Platino once again became a pioneer in its sector as the first Spanish hosiery company to incorporate nylon into its designs. Since then the innovations have come thick and fast: in 1966 it presented the first design for tights, Jenny Platino, a model that was improved the following year, whilst at the same time introducing new materials, thanks to research in the sector, achieving greater transparency, elasticity and a softer feel.
Platino professionalised all these innovations in 1980 when it created its R&D and design departments with view to developing patterned tights and stockings: fully fashioned heels, zigzags, hexagons, pyramid stitching, etc.
Coinciding with the brand's internal developments, Platino also embarked on its process of internationalisation. In 1985, Platino Internacional was established in Brussels, with a view to meeting demand in northern Europe. In the 1990s, Platino began exporting to certain countries in Asia such as Japan, Taiwan and Korea.
In 1998, Platino expanded its range of products to include a new line in underwear for men and women, offering seamless garments made from soft comfortable fabrics.
Currently, Platino exports to over 15 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The firm also attends different tradeshows in the sector, such as the International Lingerie Show (Paris), Mode City (Lyon) and CPM (Moscow).
