The Spanish group started out in the early 20th century. It was founded by Catalan hair stylist Josep Colomer, a key figure in artistic and commercial circles in the first few decades of the 20th century.
Josep Colomer started work in the Paris of the nineteen twenties where he soon became a hairdressing star. In the Thirties, he was to continue his trade in Barcelona and in 1934 created Colomer Ltda., which was to become a leading light in the hairdressing and personal care sector in Spain. The company went global in the Eighties, signing international distribution deals and acquiring leading world brands. In 2000, the Colomer family bought the professional products side of Revlon Consumer Products Corporation and took on its current name “The Colomer Group”. .
The Colomer Group operates in more than a hundred countries where it sells hairdressing and personal grooming products, mainly in the professional channel, to hair stylists and beauty salons, as well as to end consumers. It has 23 companies all over the world and also sells through distributors. It organises its own international hairdressing shows and championships.
Since October 2007, the company has been operating from its head office at the World Trade Center in Cornellá de Llobregat, in Barcelona, where about 300 people work. Outside Spain, it has a workforce of 2,600.
Investment is crucial to growth and the group has its own research and development department in which more than 25 people are involved. In 2008, it is due to launch a new hair product aimed at both men and women.
Josep Colomer has received a number of awards, including the “Medalla del Mérito en el Trabajo” and the “Medalla President Maciá”, in recognition of his contribution to hairdressing.
