Men’s and women’s wear label Divinas Palabras was set up as a creative platform for communication and fashion projects, and adopts an interdisciplinary approach to design. Its first collection, in Spring-Summer 2001, revolved around language as a primordial means of expression, turning human beings into vehicles for communication. Ever since, the label has been producing two theme-based collections a year, with T-shirt and knitwear as its mainstays. Its garments make categorical statements using words and icons from collective imagery, taken from the fields of cinema, art, design and even emotion. It has also introduced a jewellery range.
To date, Divinas Palabras has presented its collections at Circuit–Barcelona (Barcelona’s fashion, art and music forum) and regularly works with well-known Spanish artists, writers, and designers, including Lucía Etxebarría, Alaska, Isabel Coixet, Rafael Amargo, Nacho Vidal, Josep Font and Leila Ménde
The prestigious US magazine SportsWear included Divinas Palabras as one of the world’s 200 best fashion houses in its Who is who 2004. Divinas Palabras was also one of the top Spanish designers taking part in Spanish Fashion. Behind the Mirror, the exhibition organised by the Reina Sofía contemporary art gallery in Madrid.
