Madrid-based firm Flamenco came into being in 1998. After a number of years in the fashion industry, friends Carola Morales and Elena Martín – the two young designers behind the company – decided to start up their own business. One of their aims was to bring the colour, pace and joie-de-vivre of Spain into the world of accessories.
By a skilful combination of fabric and colour, the young women achieve surprising designs replete with original detail. They use every conceivable material from velvet to organza, silk, tulle, satin, corduroy, chenille and tapestry, which they embellish with embroidery, sequins, beads and shells. A trademark Flamenco touch is the use of fabrics traditionally used in interior decorating.
In addition to their women’s wear, Flamenco offers an extensive range of bold and original designs like shawls and bags, which are a perfect match for the predominant line in each of their collections. In 2004, Flamenco diversified and launched its first kids’ collection, Flamenco for Children, inspired by its women’s wear designs. It also offered its first swimwear collection, Flamenco Swimming, which proved a great success.
Today, Flamenco’s collection can be acquired from more than 2,000 multi-brand retailers worldwide. Its exports account for 20% of sales and it takes part in major fashion fairs in Spain, Paris and Mexico.
