The progress of the Dorotea footwear brand is closely linked to that of its designer, Dorotea Valls. This graduate in Arts and Philosophy from Barcelona University completed her training in Italy. There she studied design, pattern design and stylism.
She then returned to Spain to join Jesús del Pozo’s design team, creating the women’s spring-summer collections. She later took over the design of women’s footwear collections for various companies including Make-Up, Camper, Antonio Miró, Japanese firm Viva You and the Korean L.P.
In July 1999 she decided to start trading under the Dorotea brand name, created through the Sushi Siglo XXI foundation, focusing on brand design, production and sales. The aim is to create footwear designs incorporating large doses of research and inspiration based on Dorotea’s own personal style and personality, producing new and original designs each season. Careful attention to image can be seen in the footwear presentations and the stand designs, as well as the corporate catalogues and press launches. Another key strategic element is a selective sales distribution policy. In Spain the shoes are positioned in around 80 top quality multibrand stores.
Thanks to the firm’s showcase presentations of its collections at leading international fairs such as New York, Düsseldorf, Paris or Madrid, the firm’s products can now be seen in the window displays of prestigious boutiques. Such boutiques include Otto Tootsie in New York, On ward in Paris, and others throughout the UK, France, Japan, Canada, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.
