Interview with Pepe Amat, manager of Magrit
Spanish firm Magrit has a long-standing tradition in the footwear industry, with a history going back more than 75 years. The company, based in Elda, Alicante, is owned by the Amat family. Magrit produces about 150,000 pairs of shoes a year.
Magrit has positioned itself in the most exclusive market segment. The firm targets women aged between 30 and 60 who value quality above all else.
Its elegant and sophisticated collections include party and evening shoes, peep toes, T-bars, sandals, ballet flats and wedges. Made from exclusive material, with comfortable shoe shapes, its footwear uses exotic leather, satin and Swarovski crystal, as well as other intricate details, for a subtle and crafted luxury finish.
Magrit has forged partnerships with top professionals and figures from the world of fashion, press and television. It recently provided shoes to go with Ailanto’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection at Cibeles. It also took part in the exhibition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Spanish Film Academy Awards or Goyas, with a boot inspired by Pedro Almodóvar’s All About my Mother. Princess Letizia, wife to the Spanish crown prince, is a regular customer.
A large share of the production is destined for international markets, part of a strategy based on a highly active network of sales agents and regular attendance at international trade fairs. Britain is the firm’s biggest client, accounting for 60% of total exports. The remaining 40% is destined for Asia, Australia and the US.
