Footwear brand Pikolinos was created in Elche in 1984 with an emphasis on quality and the desire to balance traditional craftsmanship with modernity. Exclusive design and comfort are the watchwords of its collections for both men and women.
Pikolinos is one of a handful of EU companies to have received the European Eco-Label. Committed to environmental conservation, it aims to ensure that all its management and manufacturing processes are eco-friendly, using special washes and 100% vegetable tanning to achieve a natural finish.
As part of its corporate responsibility programme, Pikolinos also aids development through a series of global projects. Its Masai Project — a fair trade initiative for the Masai Mara Natural Reserve designed to guarantee quality of life for this Kenyan community by providing work for craftswomen — won it a nomination in the 2011 WGSN Global Fashion Awards for Most Sustainable Brand.
Globalisation is one of the company’s greatest strengths. It produces around 1.8m pairs of shoes and sells its products at some 8,000 POS in more than 70 countries on five continents. Exports account for more than 70% of sales.
In March 2007, Pikolinos bought Spanish formal footwear brand Martinelli as part of its diversification plan. This elegant classic product is made using a unique system of handcrafting known as “sewing between skins”. This refined handcrafted technique uses the latest technologies to improve footwear comfort.
