The luxury women's footwear firm Pons Quintana was set up in 1953 in Alaior, Minorca. It was a small family run business dedicated to the production and sale of footwear. During the 70s, this family business established a solid market niche thanks to the creation of the 1042 model. This model was the result of a new production process that included a double turn of the leather. In 1975 Santiago Pons Quintana set up a public limited company operating under the brand name Pons Quintana.
Following the retirement of Santiago Pons Quintana, the Company's founder, executive director and manager, a new management team took over. The new team was made up of Santiago Pons Palliser, Magdalena Pons Palliser and Juan Carlos Fernández de Salort. Today Pons Quintana employs 100 shop floor workers and produces an average of 900 pairs of shoes a day.
Sixty per cent of the leather used by Pons Quintana is produced exclusively for the Company. This leather comes from both Spain and abroad. The suede, Nappa and calfskin leather, encrusted stones, soles, heels and platforms are all manufactured exclusively for the brand.
Pons Quintana exports 60% of its total production to Europe (France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, etc), as well as to the United States, Australia and the Asian markets. It has points of sale in a number of cities including New York, Melbourne, Venice or Neyron (France). Pons Quintana regularly takes part in international footwear fairs such as Düsseldorf's GDS, Milan's MICAM, London's Eye 2 Eye, New York's Fashion Coterie, Hong Kong's Asia Pacific Leather or Munich's MOC.
