Luxury women's footwear firm Pons Quintana was set up in 1953 in Alaior, Minorca. A small family run business which produced and sold footwear, it established a solid market niche when it created the 1042 model in the 1970s. The model was made using a new leather production process called double turnlock, now one of the brand’s signature features. In 1975, Santiago Pons Quintana set up a public limited liability company operating under the brand name Pons Quintana.
The retirement of company founder, executive director and manager Santiago Pons Quintana resulted in Santiago Pons Palliser, Magdalena Pons Palliser and Juan Carlos Fernández de Salort being brought in as the new management team. Today, Pons Quintana has a 100-strong workforce and produces an average of 900 pairs of shoes a day.
Sixty per cent of the leather used by Pons Quintana is produced exclusively for the company. Its collections make use of suede, nappa and calfskin leather, beading, soles, heels and platforms that are manufactured exclusively for the brand.
With turnover of more than €11m, Pons Quintana exports 60% of its production to European markets (France, Germany, Belgium, Italy...), as well as to the USA, Australia and Asian countries. The company’s future lies in emerging markets headed by Russia and Brazil in particular. Today, it has more than 600 sales points in multi-brand spaces located in cities such as New York, Melbourne, Venice and Neyron (in the French region of Rhône-Alpes) and seven of its own shops in Spain.
Its collections, which include 150 designs every season, are presented at top international footwear fairs like GDS Düsseldorf, MICAM Milan, Eye 2 Eye London, Fashion Coterie New York, Asia Pacific Leather I Hong Kong and MOC Munich.
