Roberto Torretta was born in Buenos Aires, but he moved to Spain in 1972 and settled in Madrid, where he started working in the fashion world as a member of the sales team for the firm Trip Difusión (Barcelona). That same year he was involved in the opening of Boutique Berlín, in Madrid.

In 1981 he created the brand name and company Snif, setting up sales and production offices, as well as a workshop for designs and prototypes. He initially specialised in cotton fabrics, creating various collections of sports clothes. Three years later he came into contact for the first time with the catwalks, at the fashion event organised by Dunia magazine. In 1988 he set up his showroom in Madrid's Campoamor Street, from where he extended his commercial network.

In 1995 Roberto Torretta created and launched two new lines: Snif Maglia and a new leather collection. A year later he took part in the Cibeles Fashion Show in Madrid, and in May 1997 he finally opened his own store in Madrid, situated at 14, Jorge Juan Street. In 1998 he opened his Valencia store, which was followed by openings in 1999 in Seville and in 2001 in Ibiza.

In March 2002, Roberto Torretta received the Alfiler de Oro (Golden Needle Award) in recognition of his career. This award is given jointly by Fermoda 2002 and the Costa del Sol Fashion Show.
