The Mercedes de Miguel company was set up in 1989 by the fashion designer of the same name. Having worked for various firms within the sector, de Miguel decided to create her own firm under the trading name Mercedes de Miguel.

The company currently operates under two brand names: Mercedes de Miguel and M. de Miguel. M. de Miguel is aimed at active women who wish to dress elegantly but in keeping with the latest trends. It represents simple and up to date elegance, whilst Mercedes de Miguel offers younger and more daring designs for a women in search of something different, original and with a more sophisticated touch. Both lines pay careful attention to the quality of the fabrics and finishes.

Today the company's designs are on sale at more than 250 outlets in Spain, Lebanon, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Kuwait, the United Kingdom and Greece.

Ever since the company was first set up, Mercedes de Miguel has featured at the various fashion events held in Madrid, Barcelona and Paris. Since 1995, her creations have been seen on the national and international catwalks of Gaudí and Cibeles, and also at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and at Dusseldorf's CPD.

In addition to her work as a fashion designer, Mercedes de Miguel has also created the uniforms for the staff at the Guggenheim Museum and the E.G.O.(Young Orchestra from the Basque Country), and has worked on the costumes for various television programmes. She was recently awarded the Alfiler de Oro (Golden Needle) for the Woman of the Year in the Basque Country, in recognition of her enterprising work and international expansion. She has received many other awards from both her home province, Burgos, and her adopted province, Bizkaia.

In March 2002 Mercedes de Miguel created a new store concept where each season she presents her designs at a fashion show for the press and her clients. The boutique has been designed in the style of a long green sand glass catwalk, which incorporates the first lighting system of its kind to be installed in a fashion store, together with a systems designed to reproduce different colour schemes that represent a tribute to various regions of the planet.
