Fernando Lemoniez was born in San Sebastián, the city where in 1985 he set up and developed a boutique-atelier for the creation and sale of his own collections. His first major career success came in 1992, when he received the T de Telva award for Best Spanish Designer, a prize that he would go on to receive for a second time in 1997. In 1995 he moved to Paris, and between 1996 and 1998 fashion shows at the Spanish Embassy formed the setting for the presentation of his collections, as part of the official programme of the Chambre Sindicale de la Couture et du Prêt-à-Porter.
Fernando Lemoniez's international connections do not end there, as in 1996 he designed a collection for the Italian firm Genny. A year later he signed a contract for the distribution of his collections on the Japanese market, and in 1998 he undertook an advanced course of study at Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture.
Between 1991 and 1998 Fernando Lemoniez joined forces with Miguel Palacio and together they created the Palacio & Lemoniez collections, which were launched twice a year at Madrid's Cibeles Fashion Show, where, since 1999, he has been presenting his own designs.
Lemoniez has also made several ventures into the world of show business. In 2002 he designed the costumes for the female characters in the musical Las Mil y unas Noches Flamencas, a Tito Losada production choreographed by Antonio Canales and directed by Sergio Cabrera.
