Joaquim Verdú was born in Barcelona in 1948. From an early age he felt a particular fascination for the world of art, which led him to combine his university studies with his classes at the Massana School of Fine Arts, where he studied for five years. Later on, his interest in aesthetics led him to study a fashion course at the Feli International Institute. Whilst studying for a master's degree in Milan, this designer in potential came into contact with the full range of industrial procedures: design, spinning, printing, finishes... His excellent grades attracted the attention of a design studio in England, where he completed a six months' training period. Once this learning process was completed, he returned to Spain where he worked as a designer for a number of leading Spanish textile companies, whilst also collaborating with Italian knitwear firms.

Following a period of time working for a number of companies in the textile industry, in 1986 the designer decided to set up his own line. The collection was presented at Barcelona's Gaudí Women's Fashion Show, and since then Verdú's collections have been a constant presence at both the Gaudí and Cibeles Fashion Shows. In addition, his creations are sold not only in Spain, but also in Portugal, Benelux, France, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan. From 1986 onwards his collections have also been seen on the international catwalks of Milan, Tokyo and New York.

In 1991 he was invited by the Washington-based Hispanic Designers to present his 1991-92 autumn-winter collection together with designers such as Carolina Herrera, Óscar de la Renta, Paloma Picasso and Estrella G, and which received widespread acclaim from both the public and fashion critics. In 1992 he extended his collection to include a line of underwear for men and women, which he called Homewear, and which was presented at Barcelona's Gaudí Fashion Show.

In 1999 he launched his line of jumpers for men, which was extremely well-received by both the press and the public. In 2001 the Novak knitwear firm started producing and selling Joaquim Verdú's knitwear collections on both the Spanish and international markets. In 2001 the designer also signed a contract with Sposanova for the production and national and international distribution of his bridal wear range. Several months later the first Joaquim Verdú bridal wear collection was presented at the Novia España Fair held in Barcelona.

Joaquim Verdú is also interested in the world of films and television.
