Hannibal Laguna was born on 8 October 1967 in Caracas DF, Venezuela. At the age of 15 he moved to Spain, where he set up residence in Madrid. His first textile company was called Bellocotton, which he founded in 1985 for the production of cotton knits, and which had three retail outlets in the autonomous region of Valencia plus a national distribution network. The following year he set up his own outlet for his ready to wear designs under the Hannibal Laguna brand, and in 1990 he opened his new couture house in Alicante. In 1999 he opened his new atelier at 35, Jorge Juan Street, which serves as a showcase for his five couture and ready to wear collections for men and women.

Hannibal Laguna first venture into the accessories sector was in 1991, when he presented his first bag and shoe collection. Two years later he reached a collaboration agreement with María Pérez CB for a new line of jewellery and accessories known as Bijoux, which was launched at Barcelona's Hotel Ritz. Today this line is sold all over Spain.

Today Hannibal Laguna is a key figure in the design of bridal wear. In 2002 he signed a contract with Pronovias for the production, sale and distribution of his ready to wear bridal wear line known as Hannibal Laguna para Pronovias. This collection is currently sold by Pronovias at more than a thousand points of sale throughout Spain and the rest of the world.

Hannibal Laguna has been a regular presence on the Spanish catwalks since 1990, appearing at the Cibeles and Gaudí fashion shows. Since 1998 he has presented in Autumn-Winter and Spring-Summer collections for men and women at Barcelona Estilo Hombre (Barcelona Men Style) y Barcelona Estilo Mujer (Barcelona Women Style). Since 1997 he has also presented his bridal wear collections at the annual Novia España Show (Spanish Bride Show), part of the Barcelona Fashion Week. Since June 2000 this event has also been the showcase for the presentation of his Hannibal Laguna Shoes line and since July 2001, the Hannibal Laguna Bijoux and Hannibal Laguna Men's special occasion and formal wear collections.

Like many other Spanish designers, Laguna has worked with the theatre, film and television industries.
