Since entering the world of design and creativity twenty years ago, Chus Burés' designs have reflected an insatiable curiosity and fascination with forms, materials and textures, creating items of jewllery that rather than being a symbol of wealth, are instead symbols of good taste and imagination. Burés makes use of materials such as gold, silver and diamonds, as he believes that the more traditional materials produce the finest results.
Firmly rooted in the present and urban reality, during the eighties and the creative boom of the Madrid scene Chus Burés worked with fashion designers, photographers, film makers, painters, sculptors, architects and musicians. The most emblematic item of jewellery that he created during this period is undoubtedly the killer hairpin that he created for Pedro Almodóvar's film Matador.
Since 1998 he has been a regular participant at all the major design events held in Paris, Stockholm, Berlin, Tokyo, New York, Venice, Milan, etc. His jewellery collections have been presented in Paris, Milan, London, New York and Tokyo. Chus Burés' talent enables him to switch from creating large scale production items to individual commissions, where jewellery "ceases to be a mere ornament, and is turned into a story with a life and soul of its own that you want to hold on to for the rest of your life".
In order to promote his designs, in 1992 Chus Burés opened his first jewellery and accessory store in Madrid. It is called La Oreja de Plata (The Silver Ear), and was designed by Javier Maroto and Álvaro Soto. Situated at 39, Jorge Juan Street, in 1998 it received the Autonomous Region of Madrid's Award for Town Planning, Architecture and Public Works, and the FAD Award for interior decorating in 1999. In 2002 he opened a second store, this time at 88, Claudio Coello Street, coinciding with the presentation of his new MAE NAM collection of jewellery, objects, textiles and ceramics.
In 1996 he created his own design production company, Bauga, and later set up Asoke Producciones. Both companies work in the field of product design and the design of jewellery, accessories and other objects commissioned by other companies.
