    Andrés Sardá's interview

This Barcelona-born designer founded his swimwear and intimates firm in 1962, although his family had been involved in fashion since the 19th century. His first task on joining the family business, after completing his studies in textiles engineering, was to introduce the company's products onto the American market.

Sardá has always been a keen innovator both in design and fabric and was the first to use stretch fibres. The same enthusiasm led him to create the brand Risk, with the goal of creating both practical and appealing intimates for woman.

In 1980 he created the top-end range Andrés Sardá, offering designs, materials and colours that had never been used before in underwear.
His company has always had an international vocation and sought to carve out a niche in Europe, as well in tricky markets in America and Asia under the three brands Andrés Sardá, Risk and University. The last two have since been replaced with Sarda by Andres Sarda which is designed, alongside the designer’s namesake brand, with daughter Núria, who joined the company in 1996 and is now creative director.

Together, they have continued the tradition of this luxury brand born of a desire to create beauty and they take pleasure in dressing women in seductive designs renowned for their creativity, quality and functionality.

Andrés Sardá has its own shop at 14, Ramón de la Cruz in the exclusive Madrid neighbourhood of Salamanca, and has 200 POS in Spain. Its export rate now totals 60%.
