    Ailanto´s interview

Ailanto is a Barcelona-based fashion company set up in 1992. Behind Alianto are Iñaki y Aitor Muñoz. Both were born in Algorta (the Basque Country) in 1968 and both graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. Iñaki also qualified in Fashion Design at the IADE School in Barcelona.

The Ailanto universe is mainly visual; its most characteristic features include its colour combinations and geometrical forms as well as its references to avant-garde and modern artistic trends. The accent is placed heavily on a careful attention to details and finishes, as well as fine fabrics (linen, wool and silk) that add the sense of lightness necessary to balance industrial rigidity and ultra-modern aesthetics.

Ailanto first made its presence felt on the national market in 1995 through its participation in a series of fashion shows including Gaudí (Barcelona) and the International Fashion Week (Madrid). In 1999 it moved onto the international scene, participating in shows such as the Paris Prêt à Porter (Atmosphères) and the Creators' Week at Workshop Paris and Tranoï. The firm's major international markets include Japan, the United States, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Italy. Leading boutiques and top department stores such as Bergdorf Goodman (NY), Penélope (Brescia), Lane Crawford (Hong Kong), Barneys New York (Tokyo), Selfridges (London) Baycrew’s Spick and Span (Tokyo), The American Rag Cie (Los Angeles, San Francisco), Aquagirl (Tokyo) all stock and support their collections.

Ailanto collections have been presented at the Cibeles Fashion Show in Madrid (Spring-Summer 2002 and Autumn-Winter 2002-2003) and since this season at the Gaudí Fashion Show.

Ailanto regularly works with national and international television channels and the Ailanto collections are frequently featured in the national and international press.

Ailanto has been involved in the following exhibitions: The Exhibition and book entitled Pasión diseño español (Spanish Passion Design) organised by DDI-SEACEX and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology in 2002 and the exhibition entitled Tras el espejo. Moda española (Behind the Mirror. Spanish Fashion) held at the Reina Sofia Modern Art Museum in 2003.
