Strong Spanish showing at Moscow’s top trade fair

08/22/2006

The Children’s Fashion from Spain catwalk creates great expectations.

From September 6 to 9, Moscow will be holding the seventh edition of its fashion fair CPM-Collection Premiere Moscow. The Krasnaya Presnya Expocentr will provide a state-of-the-art setting for the presentation of spring-summer 2007 collections.

Since it was created in September 2003, CPM has consolidated its position in the Russian market as the top fashion and accessories fair. After inexorable growth, it now includes every sector from men’s and women’s wear to children’s wear, lingerie & beachwear, footwear, leather goods and bridal wear.

The last CPM received a total of 15,800 visitors from 30 different countries. This strong international dimension has made it a key trading platform between Russia and Europe. Over a thousand exhibitors have confirmed they will be taking part in this edition.

Spanish fashion labels have risen enthusiastically to the Russian challenge and their belief in the market’s potential is apparent from the growing number of participants, 53 on this occasion. Among them will be Caramelo, Acosta, Myriam Gallego, Mirto, Fuentecapala, Muchacha, Toypes, Dikton’s and Model Novias.

There has been a particularly dramatic increase in the number of Spanish children’s wear labels and 13 are expected at this edition, including Bóboli, Clan Bilbao, Big Fun, Las Babas, Microbio and Tuc Tuc. Ten of them will be taking part in the Children’s Fashion from Spain catwalk, which will have a musical theme. An explosion of bright colour and texture, from lawn-green to glitter and canons with streamers, will fill the runway. Collections are inspired by the world of pirates, the palaces of bygone civilisations and desert oases. Others draw on the French Riviera of the nineteen twenties and voyages to distant continents like Africa and South America.

Russia is a key market for the Spanish fashion industry. Growing consumption has facilitated the entry of foreign labels and European brands are particularly popular. In 2005, Spain exported fashion to Russia worth €57.6 mill., up a spectacular 73% on the previous year.
