Camper in Roma.

Camper Together arrives in Rome

12/23/2011

Designed by the Doshi Levien studio, the new shop is located on one of Rome’s busiest shopping streets.

As part of its strategy to expand its successful Together concept, Camper has recently redesigned one of its main shops in the Italian capital: Mediterranean colours, fine materials, and simple lines are the key features of the new look chosen for the shop on Rome’s via Baullari.

Conceived by the Anglo-Indian design duo Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, the shop’s architectural and decorative features have a Mediterranean air about them that transport the visitor right into the heart of summer. A water fountain in a little square, ceiling fans that keep the air fresh, marble steps and a collection of mirrors all conspire to give Camper’s new shop an almost magical feel.

From the outside, a Zoetrope turning in the shop window catches the eye of passers-by while inside, design and shoes occupy pride of place on each of the marble steps.

Having qualified at London’s Royal College of Art, Nipa Doshi (Indian) and Jonathan Levien (Scottish) founded the Doshi Levien studio in the year 2000 and their penchant for combining different cultures, technology and craftsmanship would soon make them one of the most unique creative duos on the international scene.

The Together concept was created in 2006 to give expression to the Spanish company’s interest in art and architecture and has so far been introduced at 15 international sales points. Its next stops after Rome will be Bologna, Berlin, Amsterdam and Washington.

Camper, which still has its corporate headquarters in Inca, Mallorca, now has 68 shops, 75 shop-in-shops and 12 outlets of its own, as well as 75 shops, 4 outlets and 65 shop-in-shops under franchise arrangements in 42 countries.
