The Spanish womenswear brand makes its entry into the UK and US courtesy of the Urban Outfitters chain, Anthropologie.
Brothers Iñaki and Aitor Muñoz, the creative duo behind Ailanto, are crossing over into new territory. As of next season, the Spanish womenswear brand will sold through Anthropologie, the chain owned by Urban Outfitters.
The autumn/winter 2011/12 collection will make its debut at a selection of Anthropologie shops in the US and the UK. Ailanto will also be distributed online via the official website http://www.anthropologie.com.
Urban Outfitters is one of the world’s biggest fashion distributors and is growing at an annual rate of more than 20%. In 2010, sales exceeded $2 billion. The group flagship Anthropologie, where Ailanto will be presenting its collection next season, is a chain of 155 multi-brand stores aimed at urban women aged from 30 to 45.
Ailanto was founded in Barcelona in 1992 and has more than 60 sales points and is stocked by 28 top international retailers. Its designs use unusual geometric patterns, hypnotic colours and all kinds of artistic and film-based references.
The autumn/winter 2011/12 collection is inspired by snapshots of winter sports caught on camera by Jacques Henri in the 1920s. Plant and floral prints, embroidery, lace and layering are some of the highlights in garments that use natural shades.
