Camper opening party on Madison Avenue

02/23/2010

The Spanish footwear brand chooses the exclusive Midtown shopping district to set up its second shop in New York.

Fernando and Humberto, the Brazilian Campana brothers, have created the design for the new Camper shop in New York, which opened on February 13, 2010 at 635, Madison Avenue, to coincide with New York Fashion Week. After opening its shop in SoHo, the cutting-edge Spanish footwear brand has chosen the exclusive Midtown shopping district to set up its second shop in the city.

The opening party was attended by top names from the worlds of fashion and show business, including Sean Lennon – the DJ – Kelly Osbourne, Spanish designer Davidelfin who had his own show a few days later on the NY catwalk – and television’s Alison Brie, the actress from the successful series set on Madison Avenue, Mad Men.

Wicker, a very Mediterranean choice, is the star material at the new store, which is part of the Camper Together initiative, where prestigious artists and designers leave their mark on the brand’s shop and products.

This is not the first time the Campana brothers have worked with Camper. In 2007, they designed its boutique in Berlin. Indeed, the brand’s growth in the German capital has recently been boosted by the opening of a Casa Camper hotel and an Asian tapas restaurant, Dos Palillos.

Under the slogan Imagination Walks, Camper never ceases to surprise with its new initiatives and the inexhaustible creativity it has shown since 1981 when it opened its first shop in Barcelona. Teaming up with some of the top artists and interior designers of the day, (the Campanas, Jaime Hayón, Bernard Wilhelm, Martí Guixé), Camper has carved out a place for itself at the forefront of design, without losing sight of its Mediterranean roots. Today, it operates in 70 markets and has more than 200 Camper shops.
