Climbing shoes at MasQueCalzado exhibition

Footwear + Innovation = MasQueCalzado

11/07/2008

Madrid hosts an exhibition about innovation applied to footwear in different activities, professions and sports.

Spanish footwear is about design, savoir faire, quality, fashion… and also technological innovation. This latter component forms the backbone of the exhibition MasQueCalzado, held in the Ballroom of the Madrid Fine Arts Circle.

Promoted by the Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries (FICE) and the Spanish Institute of Footwear and Related Industries (INESCOP), the ‘journey to innovation’ that is MasQuecalzado explains the role of technology in the development of comfortable and ergonomic shoes.

The largest section of the exhibition is dedicated to professional, safety and sports footwear. It shows how technology has made our lives easier by developing robust footwear for motorcycling, versatile footwear for the army, thermal footwear for professions and hobbies practiced at extreme low temperatures, and football boots with special soles for the football field.

Spanish labels such as Boreal, Chiruca, Curial, Fal, Hebo, Iturri, J’Hayber, Joma, Luck, Munich, Panter and Paredes are taking part in this exhibition, divided into zones with original titles that evoke popular references and sayings: The roof of the world (mountaineering), Step by step (hiking), Spiderman (climbing), The fiery cauldrons (footwear for high temperatures), My cousins the penguins (low temperatures), Hi-ho Hi-ho, it’s off to work we go (lumberjacks), Dancing on the scaffolding (construction), Power to the pedal (cycling), Kick off (football), Intensive Care (healthcare and bespoke footwear), Off to war (Military footwear) and Two wheels (motorcycling).
