Hot on the heels of its recent launch in Panama, the Spanish childrenswear firm has further increased its presence in Latin America with a new opening in Bogota.
There is no doubt about it, 2011 was Pili Carrera’s most international year yet, as it saw the brand continue with the ambitious expansion plan that began in 2005 with the opening of its first shop in the US. After establishing its second shop in Miami at the city’s exclusive Village of Merrick Park shopping centre last January, the Spanish childrenswear label went on to open a further seven retail spaces last year. In the last quarter of 2011 alone, Pili Carrera opened five single-brand boutiques in Panama City, Reynosa and Veracruz in Mexico, Viseu in Portugal and Xàtiva in Valencia.
The opening of its first shop in Panama signals Pili Carrera’s launch into Central America and further increases its presence in the continent where its most promising expansion efforts are currently focussed.
Yet it is Mexico and Portugal where the Galician company’s consolidation is most obvious. In Mexico, new shops in Reynosa, in the state of Tamaulipas, and Veracruz, have been added to the other two already located in prestigious Mexico City shopping centres, while in Portugal, the recent opening of the boutique in Viseu takes the number of shops there to five. All of these are clear signs of the surprising growth being enjoyed by the brand as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in the fashion industry.
Pili Carrera has thus established a vast commercial network that includes the United States, Mexico, Panama, Portugal and Russia. With the firm’s products already distributed in more than 800 multi-brand spaces throughout the world - some as famous as London’s Harrods -, Holland is the latest country to be added to the long list.
Meanwhile, careful as ever not to abandon its domestic market, in March it opened the doors of a new shop in Oviedo and at Christmas it was the turn of Xàtiva in Valencia. In total, the company now boasts around thirty single-brand boutiques throughout Spain.
The planned openings in Bogota, Colombia and Vitoria in the Basque Country in the first few months of 2012 will consolidate the firm’s leadership on the international childrenswear and childcare scene.
