Custo Barcelona expands in Venezuela

07/28/2010

The Spanish brand opens its second shop in the country on the tourist resort of Isla Margarita.

A few months back, Custo Dalmau, the designer of the renowned Spanish fashion brand Custo Barcelona, announced a bid for growth in Latin America and the Middle East, and its plans to open standalones.

After its arrival in the Venezuelan city of Maracaibo and the island of Aruba, the brand is continuing its growth strategy in the Caribbean with a second shop in Venezuela. The latest boutique is located in the La Vela mall on Isla Margarita, in a building inspired by a peñero, the region’s typical fishing vessel, and opened on July 18.

With more than 100 sq. m. distributed over two storeys, the premises update the Custo Barcelona shop concept. A spectacular glass façade measuring four metres attracts passers-by who are treated to a glimpse of the colourful, innovative interior with gentle, flowing shapes created by a series of parallel planes.

The garments are the stars of the show, carefully laid out on a series of gradated painted panels which reproduce the colours of the rainbow.

In early 2011, Custo Barcelona plans to open a shop in Caracas, taking its shop total in Latin America to nine: Venezuela (3), Colombia (2), Aruba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Panamá.

In the Middle East, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will complete the list of openings planned for 2010.

A regular at New York Fashion Week since 1997, Custo Barcelona has recently joined ACME, the Spanish fashion Creators Association. The brand has more than 3,000 points of sale and 70 shops around the world. In 2009, consolidated turnover reached €84 mill. and the export rate hit the 85% mark.
