Estrella Archs designs for London’s Royal Ballet

07/27/2010

The Spanish designer creates costumes for the world premiere of a new work performed by the leading international dance company.

London’s Royal Ballet has opted for the talent and creativity of Estrella Archs for the costumes worn by its leading dancers in the new work Aimanter. The Spanish designer was responsible for the wardrobe of prima ballerina Mara Galeazzi and premier danseur Edward Watson, in the work directed by French choreographer Ludovic Ondiviela.

The work, which is being performed at the Muse-a-muse dance festival in Lagrasse, in southern France, is Estrella Archs’s debut in the world of dance, one of her great sources of inspiration, and the start of a new relationship with the Royal Ballet.

The collection is a dream come true for the Spanish designer who describes it as “a magical experience, because dressing a ballerina means giving total freedom of expression to a dress”. She also added that “this relationship that has now begun with the ballet dancers of London’s Royal Ballet enables me to explore the movements of the female body with the space around it which is and has always been so important in my collections”.

The designer will now press ahead with her own collection, which she first launched in 2007 and which has proved so successful at Fashion Week in Paris, where she lives and creates an ultra-feminine, chic universe in which every garment exudes sober elegance and sophistication.

Estrella Archs collections are available at exclusive boutiques, including Jean Pierre Bua (Barcelona) and Maria Luisa or BT l’espione (Paris).
