The three Spanish brands presented their individual collections for autumn/winter 2010/11 at a runway on the edge.
Both the official calendar and the parallel catwalk circuit made room for Spanish fashion at London Fashion Week, from February 19 to 23, 2010.
At the BFC Show Space on February 20, Emilio de la Morena showed London his skill in creating womenswear, with sculptural, chic designs that exude a strong, modern style. Transparency is layered, creating different planes with the injection of opaque fabrics that use muslin as a backdrop. Prints play a key role, especially in gradated colours with mineral motifs.
Txell Miras made her debut on 19 February at On Off, London Fashion Week’s independent platform, held at Victoria House. ‘Fancy Bats’ is inspired by the enigmatic world of the creatures that give the collection its name, with looks in total black enriched by fabrics that give weight to texture. Volume is another constant feature, with draping used to create the morphology of the dark mammal.
On the same day, Ramón Gurillo also took to the alternative British catwalk, with skilfully knitted garments and embroidered openwork. Black was again prominent, with details in copper, beige and red.
Elena Martín, the name behind the Martin Lamothe brand, took a cruise collection already presented at 080 Barcelona Fashion to the British capital. Navy looks inspire highly elaborate garments where multi-coloured laces turn into emphatic, bulky mini-dresses, while tailoring is updated with casual suits for men. Fine fabrics, like silk crêpe and resinated cotton, wool and leather, are used to give shape to this collection which draws on turn-of-the-century aristocratic luxury.
