Prestigious Madrid-based design institute IADE dresses Tinkerbell up in original autumn outfits

Walt Disney uses Spain’s future fashion designers in ambitious international project

Students in the second year of their fashion design course at the Artistic Institute of Education in Madrid (IADE) have been chosen to change the wardrobe of Peter Pan’s delightful friend, Tinkerbell, which remains unchanged since the Scottish writer James M. Barrie created the character in1904.

Inspired by the world of fairies and nature, and remaining true to the colour green that Tinkerbell wears in the stories, 45 students, with the school’s professor on hand to advise, have created 17 outfits for the tiny fairy and her friends Fawn, Iridessa, Rosetta and Silvermist.

As well as breaking away from the traditional style, the main challenge has been to create autumn outfits, replacing her traditional strapless top and jagged short skirt for long-sleeved designs and original bolero jackets.

The outfits will be exhibited this coming November to coincide with the launch of Walt Disney’s Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure DVD.
