Vaho Works new store

Vaho Works, again in Barcelona

08/12/2008

The Spanish fashion brand, a pioneer in the use of recycled materials in its designs, opens a second store in the city.

Barcelona was the stage upon which the urban, functional, avant-garde and ecological spirit of the fashion and accessories brand Vaho Works was born, as well as the city where it opened its first shop. Now, three years after that opening, Vaho Works has strengthened its presence in the port city with the recent opening of its second shop.

The new establishment sits right next to the Church of Pi, a privileged location in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter where artists display their works on the weekends. Plus, just as we would expect, the shop’s décor embodies the same philosophy as its design: the recycling of used elements and materials which, despite appearing to be obsolete, serve to make unique and inimitable objects. Thus, the shop’s door is made from the back door of a truck taken from a scrap yard. The armchairs are really old converted fuel drums and the walls are lined with sheet metal, since the bags have a filler containing magnets that makes it possible to hang them anywhere.

In spite of the fact that it hasn’t been open very long, the new Vaho Works shop in Barcelona is so successful that the brand is already planning to leap over to Madrid, Osaka and Kyoto. In the Spanish capital, the brand will begin to refurbish centrally-located premises for its first store there in September. In Japan, the company’s most important international market, Osaka will be the first city to welcome a Vaho Works shop, since it is the Japanese city which best meshes with the company’s philosophy. The space will cover some 70 square metres on two floors, which will feature the store as well as the brand’s showroom. Kyoto is set to be the brand’s second stop in the Japanese market. Currently, the brand sells its designs in top cities such as Paris, Rome, Milan, Berlin, London, Tokyo, Moscow and New York.
