At its inaugural edition, IFEMA’s new platform was a success.  More than 470 shoe and leather goods brands presented their collections for the coming winter.

Momad Shoes held its first edition from March 4 to 6 at IFEMA, the Madrid Convention Center, offering a panoramic view of the design and quality within the Spanish shoe and handbag sector. Fashionfromspain was there to pick up on the latest styles in a season tinged by nostalgia for the 70s and the sporty chic trend.

Athleisure fever
All the sneakers that are rewriting what were once purely athletic style codes are comfortable and modern, but very on-trend.  We saw this up close with the futuristic lines presented by Sixtyseven, Pretty Ballerinas and Victoria, while Bass 3D, Coolway and Paredes offer more purist approaches to the walking shoe. The new Francis Montesinos by Nicoboco collection offers an entirely more artsy interpretation, and Gioseppo, Kanna Shoes, Pedro Miralles Weekend and Yumas use a hearty blend of raw materials. Even Vidorreta stretches beyond its penchant for jute and joins the fad for flash with its first fall-winter collection.

Throwback to the 70s
Our overall enthrallment with the 70s continues to thrive.  This was made clear by the abundant selection of suede shoes and boots with rounded toes and recurrent decorative themes that included patchwork, buckles, and kiltie flaps. We saw this at Pura López, Paco Herrero, Mustang Originals and Lodi.  Additionally, Pons Quintana and Marila Shoes also gave off some decidedly retro vibes.

Dandy dressers
A number of the women’s shoe collections for next autumn-winter have a subtle gentlemanly air about them.  Estefanía Marco, Gadea, Kupuri, Pepe Castell and Sacha London have taken on these distinguished styles and simultaneously hopped on the mid-heel bandwagon.
We saw fresh takes on classic Chelsea boots for men at Cressy, Mascaró, Pertini and Wonders.
Laura Azaña, Gioseppo and Mustang presented a variety of sturdy lace-up mainstays, while Martinelli, Pretty Loafers, Ras and Zinda went for decorative slip-ons.

Take a walk on the wild side
Warm and wooly ankle boots reign supreme at Break&Walk, Coronel Tapiocca and Sixtyseven
Sendra, Perlita Peaches and Gaimo provide footwear for urban cowgirls, whereas Coolway, Argila and Carmela have consolidated their hold on the chic biker chick look.
Hannibal Laguna and Pedro Miralles steadfastly adopt the sophistication of the feminine fur shoe trend.  Pura López and Xti, however, prefer the more rebellious rocker look of fine fringe.
Hispanitas, Homers and Marian pay tribute to their wild sides with their collections.
And, in a return to their roots, El Naturalista bring back some of their iconic looks while emphasizing their commitment to sustainability, as exemplified in their new line of chrome-free shoes.

Starry nights
More is more…. Bejeweled shoes are on-trend and Menbur and Xti Premium present them as the perfect accessory for red-carpet-ready looks.
Of course, it would be difficult to ignore the daring femininity of Úrsula Mascaró
Lastly, Paco Mena by Menbur succumb to the glow of the gold rush.

For him
The globetrotting devotees of comfortable fits by Slowwalk and Luisetti sprout up amid the sporty followers of Bass 3D, Coolway and the adventurous hikers faithful to Coronel Tapiocca and Sendra
El Naturalista and Xti offer up casual looks while Paredes, Pertini and Martinelli present classic shoes with a twist.  The ultimate badge of dapper footwear for the modern man with style arrives on the heels of Cordwainer and the brand’s exotic leathers.

The perfect accessory
Puntotres presented handbags that were equal parts functional and sophisticated in an embossed leather wheat pattern, plus smaller shoulder bags with elegant chain link straps. Pertegaz’s minimalist, semicircular clutches are the perfect size for holding your bare essentials.
Pons Quintana provides reliable, round-the-clock functionality with its patent braided design.
Skunkfunk presents innovative accessories with an eco-friendly soul.
Coronel Tapiocca and Privata offer sturdy leather satchels for urban men on the go.
